I am the face of early missed miscarriage.
We got our BFP easily. First time trying. We were overjoyed. When my mom went into the hospital and got a grim diagnosis of Stage IV breast cancer (again after her mastectomy six years prior) we decided to tell our families, even though it was early. We told my mom first, in the ER, and she was overjoyed, she said, "I got the worst news and the best news of my life in the same day."
Our baby stopped growing at about 6w2d (on or around my birthday). I didn't find out until my first OB appointment at 8 weeks. I went by myself. I wanted to be sure, so I went in for another ultrasound at an imagine center. They said the same thing-fetal demise. I accepted it, grieved and prepared for the worst.
I went back to my OB 6 days after the first ultrasound and she thought she may have found what could be a heartbeat. We decided to wait again to make sure. I had 10 days of torture, not knowing what was happening, if I should be grieving or rejoicing, not knowing if I was pregnant or not, afraid I would start bleeding at any moment. There was never a speck of spotting and my morning sickness got worse than it had ever been. I got my hopes up.
We went back in for yet another ultrasound. The baby had not grown. It was definitely gone. We decided to do Misoprostol (generic Cytotec). A few days later I put them in and waited. Nothing happened for hours. Then a little blood. It was very easy. I felt no pain.
I went in again for an ultrasound. Nothing had happened. The baby was still in there. She gave me another prescription. I did the same thing, only this time I was going nuts with the worry and wait and just wanting it over. Nothing happened. No cramps, hardly any bleeding. I was feeling so fine and so badly wanted a distraction I went out to dinner with my ILs and went to see the midnight premier of Eclipse with my SIL. I felt fine, physically.
Since nothing happened we scheduled the D&C. That was physically easy for me. My OB was a little shaken up because I lost a lot of blood, but other than the weakness and fatigue from the blood loss I was fine, physically.
Wow. Didn't think that was going to get so long. I've never written it all out in one place before.
