EJ loves too feed himself, it is his favorite...
We are running low on ideas. We do pasta/ravioli with sauces, peas, green beans, banana, cheerios, crackers (graham), toast, blueberries, broccoli, asparagus, black beans, cheese (cheddar, mozzarella) , chicken, turkey, etc...
What else?
I am trying to figure out how to give him apples (he likes them but they are a little hard and I am hesitant to give him chunks).
I am thinking: carrots, cauliflower...
I am trying to think of more grains and fruits for him....fruit is the big one I am trying to figure out...right now we mostly just do pears, apples, nectarines, blueberry sauce on his cottage cheese (his pure addiction in life)....but I want to start to incorporate finger food fruits.
Ideas????
Re: Finger Foods (10ish Months)
I will cut carrots into bite size pieces and then steam them, he likes those.
I also skin, core, and then cut up apples into bite size pieces. I sprinkle cinnamon on them and then bake them for 20-30 minutes. He looooves those!
It's not grains or fruit, but he also likes edamame.
Lilly (now and at 10 months) eats everything..she's small but can pack away the food!
things you didn't mention:
-tofu (one of Lilly's favorites)...great source of iron, calcium and protein.
-grapes (another favorite...we cut them up in 4ths...if they are big grapes, then 8ths).
-honeydo melon (I have no idea how to spell honeydo!)
-watermelon (her favorite fruit, by far)
-canteloupe
-blackberries
-blueberries
-raspberries
-mandarin oranges
DD likes to hold a strawberry and just gnaw at it
She loves grapes this week, we cut them up too.
Melon is hit or miss, water better than Canteloupe
peaches
pears
banana
All of them I just cut up and let her grab at the pieces on her tray while I attempt to spoon feed her something with more calories. LOVE the apple idea, how long do you bake them for? Going to do it right now!!!
I slice the apples about 1/4 inch or less thick (slice, not wedge) and she goes at them. At first she just chewed on them (I think they felt good on her gums) but now she eats the whole thing.
Arrowhead Mills Puffed Corn is the fave grain product here.
Really I just take the ingredients of our meals and give them to her separately, plus something easy to give her (apple, applesauce, other fruit, puffed corn, etc).
At that age, so hard to remember already, the boys loved the freeze dried fruits (apples, bananas, strawberries, cherries, blueberries, etc.) from Costco. Super easy on-the-go snacks. Costco has cinnamon apple chips that we, as a family, can eat the entire bag in one day. They are so good!
Mandarin oranges are eaten like they are going out of style here.
In the beginning, I would let the boys gnaw on apples in the mesh feeder. Then cut them up into bite size pieces (skinned). We also froze a lot of melon type fruits for the mesh feeder (especially the ones they wouldn't touch at first).
Plums, bananas, blueberries.
Hummus on pita bread cut into pieces.
