Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

20 month old and Veggies

How many servings does LO get in a day? I'm feeling a little guilty, DS gets veggies at dinner and occassionally with lunch or breakfast but that's about it...

Re: 20 month old and Veggies

  • My DS gets 1, if we are lucky. He will not eat most vegetables. He used to love them as a baby, but now he will not touch them. He will eat tomatoes like there is no tomorrow (but aren't tomatoes considered fruit by some?). He will occasionally eat lettuce. Really, that is about it. He hates broccoli, green beans, and peas (which is what we basically eat in our house). Cooked carrots are ok, as long as they are in soup. I try not to worry about it right now b/c I can't force him to eat it. He has turned into a really picky eater, so I am happy if he at least eats something at dinner.

  • Sounds like you're doing better than us.  One a day if we are lucky.  Slowly over the past couple months, she has started refusing almost all of the vegetables she used to eat.

  • T loves broccoli, so I end up giving her that with lunch and dinner, but I can't say she's eating an entire serving's worth at each meal. Tonight though she had peas, carrots, broccoli, and some spinach in an omelet. That is an excellent veggie meal for her!

  • About the same.  2 veggies, and about 5 fruits.

ETA- that's 2 offered.  Rarely 2 are actually eaten!

  • i try to offer a few colors worth of veggies at each meal (except breakfast, they get a few colors worth of fruit).  for example, for dinner they had some leftover roasted cauliflower (which i topped w/ tomato sauce), some diced tomatoes, some edamame, some leftover spinach pancake from their lunch and some steamed carrots.  they dont eat all of it, but they at least will take a few bites of everything.

  • DS will eat some veggies as finger foods, but I am still pureeing spinach, kale, etc. and mixing it with his applesauce for lunch.  I am also still hiding some in his sweet potato or beet pancakes.

On a good day, I can get 2 of these into him.  I just want to be lazy, but I know he wouldn't eat any veggies!

  • I offer at least three a day, and thus far she's not too picky.  However, she will not touch squash, carrots, or sweet potatoes unless pureed.  So that's what I give her.

I usually offer a raw veggie (broccoli, bell peppers, sugar snap peas, green beans) as a snack once a day.  She gets a veggie with lunch & one with dinner.  I usually microwave frozen lima beans, peas, corn, green beans, etc. for her.

DH and I, however,  eat like crap.  I'm lucky if I eat three veggies a week.  Embarrassed

  • I buy Yo Baby yogurt with the fruit & veggie mixed in so he gets veggies at every meal. He doesn't always eat them but is offered.
