Save me from google - not smiling at 9 weeks?

Also about my DD - she is 9 weeks old and not smiling yet. The doctor seemed a little concerned, but my DH was there and I wasn't - so I didn't get to ask what that could mean and how concerned I should be. I would Google to see - but I am worried that I will find lots of crap that will freak me out.

DS is smiling and cooing like a rock star, so it is just DD. And they were born at 38w 3d, so it's not that I don't think.

Any ideas?

  • If you are concerned I would call the Dr. today and ask questions.  Definintly stay away from gooogle.

  • There's a normal range for doing things, and 9w still falls in that range.  I wouldn't be too concerned.

FWIW, at 2 months neither DS nor DD were batting at or grabbing for things.  My doc was mildly concerned, but said we should reserve panic for when they surpass the late end of normal and still can't do it.  Everything's been just fine!

Thus far, DS does everything at least a week later than DD.  He rolled over almost a month later.

  • I don't have any advice, but my DS started smiling right around 6 weeks but isn't really cooing.  My DD just smiled yesterday at 8.5 weeks, I just told her she must be the grump.  I am sure you LO's are fine, she is probably just taking her time to perfect her smile.

  • I wouldn't worry.  Ours just started smiling on Sunday (10-10-10 and my mom's bday).  They were 10 weeks.  It will happen soon!

  • I would give her another week or so... My boys are 11 weeks old and they just started smiling big time last week.  Before it was on and off.  I pretended they were for me but it was probably just gas :)

  • Ours didn't really start smiling until 11 or 12 weeks. They were 5 1/2 weeks premature and I think it's just one of the things they lag in from being preemies.
