I did CIO/Feber and it worked GREAT for us. BUT, one of the pedi's at dd office said it didn't work for her daughter, but she has seen it work for so many that she still recommends it.
We haven't tried it, but my pedi advised against it for my LO because she doesn't think it would work for her. She's very strong willed and will cry for hours (as we've learned with car rides).
my sister had it work for her little boy (he would not fall asleep, even in their arms). After Ferber/CIO he is a great sleeper. but it didn't work for her little girl. she would wake up sad because she could remember having to CIO. it really depends on the child. we had to do it because baby j would not sleep at all unless she was being held. again, i think it just depends on the child.
I'm not a huge fan of CIO even though I am about to lose my mind because she wakes up so much in the night- however, I have thought about it and worry that it wouldn't work anyway because when we're in the car she just screams and screams and screams. It's like she never lets up, so I don't think it would work for us... but I have no proof of that.

This is good to know! Ferber didn't work all that well for DS so we had to modify it. I bet DS is the second type!
