Trying to Get Pregnant

Laying propped up on a pillow.

So I've read mixed reviews on this (not on this site, just the internet in general) And most are saying that it isn't "proven" to work but that it wouldn't hurt.  So I'm siding with that it wouldn't hurt.  But how long should I wait?  Monday I did about 30 minutes.  I didn't intend on going that long but I got into reading something online and the time flew haha.  Tonight I am just chilling before bed.

I'm not due to ovulate until tomorrow or Thursday.  I'm going with Thursday because my CM is still pre-ovulation.  But Thursday will make it two weeks since my last period (I run a pretty regular 28-29 day cycle and I typically O about 14-15 days in)  But being as Dh and I work opposite schedules tomorrow, we are going with tonight and then will probably go again Thursday.

This is our first month TTC so its pretty exciting.  I'm not getting my hopes up but send me some pregnancy dust this way please!

Yeah that was a concern, especially since I spent 30 minutes without realizing it the other day haha.  But if I get a UTI, I get them by the next morning/day and right now I feel fine.

It is kind of hard to get into making TTC still fun, since babies are on the brain the whole time haha.  But I know enjoying the sex can boost his sperm count and the contractions from an orgasm can help move the sperm up.

It's always been said on this board that it increases your chances of UTI's, but when I have my IUI's, they have me lay down for 20 mins slightly elevated, so I'm not sure really anymore

See I've heard mixed reviews on it too.  Some say pee right away, I've heard others say go within 30 minutes.  The only time I've had problems is if I can't pee (I always try) so I go like two or three hours later.

I'll see how this plays out, but if push comes to shove I'll only elevate myself when I know I am actually ovulating.

  • I lay down for 15 minutes.
I did the same when TTC my DS, and never got a UTI.

Don't they have to dilate your cervix some to do an IUI and laying there after an IUI is to give your cervix some time to close back up? Am I totally confused and way off base?

  • Both DH's Urologist and my CNM suggested elevating for 15-20 minutes after sex. They both also said that unless I am prone to UTI, it isn't a concern how long I wait to pee.

  • You're going to get yourself a UTI propping your hips up, espeically for that long. No matter what position you're in, the good strong sperm will get where they're going. The stuff that falls out is the semen and the dumb/slow ones. Get up and pee.

Nope, they actually use those clamps to open the vaginal wall (like in a pap) and then insert a tiny catheter! They always tell me to lay down afterwards and envision myself getting preg. hahaha

hmmmm.... I always had imagined this painful torturous procedure. That sounds a lot less painful.

Maybe they figure the UTI is worth the risk to have the IUI work?

  • I don't have an opinion about propping or not propping. Do whatever you are comfortable with. I am simply here to wish you BEGINNERS LUCK! This is my first month TTC too. It only takes once so there is no rule that it can't be the first month...just no guarantees. Stay as relaxed as possible and have fun! Baby Dust to you!!

You don't get UTIs from sperm entering your vagina.

The friction of sex can push bad bacteria (or even stool) into your uretha, which can then cause an infection. That is why it is a good idea to urinate after sex, because it can help flush out anything that may have gotten into your uretha.

  • I lay there for 15-20 mins, sometimes propped.  I haven't ever gotten a UTI and pre-TTC sometimes I'd end up laying there or falling asleep.

I would be wary if you're prone to them - a BFF of mine got like 3 in 3 months.
