Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Generic/Store brand formula?

We are considering switching formulas.  I pump right now, but I have a low supply and supplement with Good Start.  With two babies to feed, it's getting expensive and we are going through one $23 can of formula every 3 days!  Ouch!  I'd like to switch to a generic or store brand, but I'm not sure if the quality is still the same or which one to try.

Any recommendations?

  • I BF and supplement with Kroger brand formula, it's just under $13 a can and if you compare there is no diff from Similac! I also used to use Walmart brand with my last baby.

  • A lot of ladies on here use Target's Up&Up brand. My LO's tummy is extremely sensitive and it took her about a week or two to adjust to it but she does just fine with it now. We use the Enfamil Premium and Enfamil AR equivalents

  • I switched to the Babies r Us brand due to the similac recall.  It was a disaster, LO has a sensitive tummy anyway (so I switched to the formula that is comparable to similac sensitive), and he was up all night fussing and making weird choking sounds (Dr. thinks it was acid reflux and the formula was coming back into his throat).  I am now using Enfamil Gentlease and he is doing better.

I really, really hope the off brand works for you!

  • We use Targets Up and Up version of Enfamil AR. The only thing that sucks is that I have to make a special trip to Target to get it, instead of just getting while grocery shopping. But for the price, it's worth it! It's only 16$ a can!

  • We switched from the Enfamil premium to Costco's generic (Kirkland) with no problems at all - only regret is not switching sooner since it is like one-third the price! Definitely worth trying generics!

  • I used Parents Choice (Walmart) with DD1 when my milk supply ran out at 3 months.  My pedi recommended it.
  • Thanks for the suggestions!
