I've got a tipped/tilted/retroverted/retroflexed (I think that's all the synonyms) uterus. The sonographer told me when I had an u/s to check for reproductive irregularities before I got pregnant. She said it was kind of like being "left handed" which I found amusing. It has never caused me problems, and my mom has one as well, so I figured it was no big deal. I've heard it can cause some women pain during sex or when using tampons or things of that nature, but I've never run into problems.
I just read that women with tipped uteruses (uterii?) sometimes have to wait longer to see the baby because the tipped angle makes it difficult to find the baby on u/s until later in the first tri, and/or it makes it more difficult to hear the heartbeat. I know that if I'm that concerned, I just need to ask the sonographer about it before the u/s on Friday, but of course now I'm just running through all these scenarios in my head. Someone needs to smack me upside the head and tell me to get a grip.
Re: Tipped uterus?
I have one also - mine is very severely tipped. It's never caused me any pain. I think it takes longer to get a visible bump if it doesn't flip to the normal position on it's own (maybe also to hear the heartbeat with a doppler - not sure on that).
I've already seen my kiddo (well the sac anyway) at only 5w2d on a transvaginal u/s so I'm pretty sure not being able to see it is a myth. And I had no problem seeing things through a transabdominal u/s when I had my embryo transfer - so again, I think that is a myth. You should have no problems either.
Oh that makes me feel better. There were some crazy babycenter.com posts about women "seeing nothing" on u/s because they had tipped uteruses.
And I hope mine sits back up to the "normal" position so that I can see a cute bump sooner rather than later. That'll be frustrating dealing with just bloat that much longer.
Oh and another good thing about it - you don't have to have as full a bladder for transabdominal u/s!! It was heaven at my transfer because I wasn't allowed to get up for 30 minutes after it was done and I would have died if I had a full bladder for that whole time.
I agree though - I want the cute bump like yesterday!!
Hi I do ultrasounds, and I also have a retroflexed uterus. It only makes it harder to see the baby during a transabdominal ultrasound, but you will have a transvaginal and will definitely be able to see something!
You are further along than I am, and I just transvag-ed myself yesterday and was able to see a gestational sac with a yolk sac in my 'left-handed uterus'. hehe.

You are a great resource to us here!
Thanks for the pic too, I wouldn't even know what I was looking at if I saw that otherwise. What should I expect to see on Friday at 6w6d???
