Re: trigger shot?

  • I only know the one for IVF  but it might be around the same thing.  It's the final shot, usually in the butt, it brings the eggs to the final stage of maturity before ovulation.  In IVF you have your egg retrieval 36 hours after trigger.  The thing about the trigger shot is that it will give you a positive on a pg test until it is out of your system.  Mine took 9 days to get out of the system.

I hope someone can give you more insight on a trigger for IUI but I am think they perform the same function.

  • Not all IUI's require a trigger shot.   I didn't have a problem ovulating on my own, so I did not have to do any trigger shots for our IUIs.

  • The trigger shot basically forces ovulation. I've been using it along with clomid. Basically what happens is after taking clomid my RE brings me in for blood work & u/s(s).  When the time is right he gives me the trigger shot in the belly and I O the next day.  We DTD the night before the trigger (this time, not last time), night of & the night after.  If this cycle doesn't work we'll go with IUI and in that case I get the trigger & go in the next morning for the IUI procedure.  I've also read of people DTD in addition to the IUI as an extra insurance policy.

    Good luck!

  • It triggers ovulation...I will be having mine 36 hours before our IUI.  :)
