So I'm slightly scared to let my friends know we're planning on CDing...
I'm the last one in my group to have kids so the rest really think I want ALL of their advice.
I'm sure they'll have something negative to say about CDing. What's something I could say that is Pro CD, not defensive/mean. But basically politely getting my point across that their opinions aren't going to change my mind?
I basically didn't react when they went off on me about not getting an epidural. Mostly because I was SHOCKED that they weren't being supportive.
I'd really like to say something intelligent this time haha.
Oh and I know some people are going to say, why don't you just not bring it up? That's a great plan, and what I've done so far. However as soon as they look at my registry and see it consists of mostly CDs I have a feeling it'll be out haha.
Re: nay sayer ideas?
I just laugh and say "you wont think its so stupid when you see how much I save while you keep spending"
People need to mind their own some times. It is so annoying. I have alot of friends who act like I am crazy.. but mostly because people who think about cloth diapers assume they are all the old flats that you wrap up and safety pin on and have leaks everywhere and poo swishing in the toilet.... Most of the people when I explain how easy it is now they finally get it. Just try asking them what they actually know about cd'ing
I just ignore it. There is no point to getting into a pissing contest.
And now, they have eaten their words.
This. When people told me they bet I wouldn't stick with it, I just smiled and said "I guess we'll see!" Well, it's been a year. We've all seen

I like this, and its what i've been doing with things like. having a med free birth, and some other things. and i'd just like to say something for once haha.
haha "you wont think its stupif when i'm saving" is really funny. thanks ladies.
This is what we did. We used CDs the minute we got home from the hospital, and we've been using them for almost 6 months. I make it a point to *casually* show off my baby's cute CDs whenever I'm around the naysayers.
The naysayers now are saying "oh, just you wait until she starts solids...." Good grief, people, does it ever stop? Why do you even care what I put on my baby's bum?
Yep. This exactly!!
I would tell people "well we decided we'd like to CD because its kinder to the environment and to LO's bum" to which, of course, we'd get the typical "but all that laundry" or "what a pain in the..." or "omg! poop in your washer!" etc, etc. so I would smile and say "we're going to try...we'll see"
Well, its been 4 months and I couldn't be more in love with CDing.
My parents are offering to help me buy disposables like it's a huge deal to them if I use cloth.
I don't think they realize that there is more to it than the cost savings (although that was my initial attraction).
I guess I'll be doing some educating between now and February.
Unless they want to know why, I wouldn't go into the environment, etc. with them. I think that can sometimes work for older folks, especially telling them about how easy it is now.
However, most other mommies...they get defensive if you dare think something is "better" than what they did...even if you don't criticize them but are responding to their comments! So, I'd just have some comments ready for *specific* critiques and questions, but otherwise, for general naysayers just say "this is what is right for our family, and we'll see how we like it..."

haven't had any nay sayers but my plan is to say "i'm cheap!" and laugh it off and if they press on i'll say "do you want to buy us few boxes of diapers? she goes through about one box a week and it's about 30 dollars a box. we'd appreciate it!"
