Babies: 3 - 6 Months

5 months and not napping like normal, anyone else?

DS is 5m today, yesterday he took normal naps I believe until later on and he fought it forever and I had to go in and comfort him.  Today its been the same thing all day having to go in and comfort him a few times before he'll fall asleep.   Normally he fusses for a bit then falls asleep on his own.  I usually put him down after 1.5 hrs of awake time.  He's only taken 1hr long naps today as well when normally they are at least 1.5 hours.

Any ideas?  Perhaps its time I start keeping him up a bit longer, but normally his eyes are so red by the time 1.5 hrs is up.

  • I've found that sometimes stuff just changes for whatever reason, like a growth spurt or a developmental thing that sort of messes with their clocks. For several days DD was pulling the always awesome 30 - 40 minute nap with super crabby wake times, but then one day she did a two hour nap midday, and now more often than not, she does that 2 hour nap.

Do you run in there the moment he wakes? DD wakes frequently after an hour but will go back down. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes of cooing to herself and squealing and babbling but then all of a sudden boom, she's out like a light for another hour.

  • I usually go in and give him his paci and leave him for a bit to see what happens.  Sometimes he goes back down, other times not.

  • DD is 4 months, but not napping well lately. She is taking 30-45 minute naps, and I can't seem to get her back to sleep. She used to be a great napper, but I am not sure what is going on. She doesn't want to be soothed either, so me rocking her doesn't help get her back to sleep. Today she woke up after 40 minutes CRANKY, I tried to get her back to sleep with no luck. I tried playing with her and she wanted no part of it. I fed her and put her in her bouncy seat and she fell asleep and slept for almost 2 hours.
  • yes!  we're having the same problem.  and LO is a crappy nighttime sleeper so i'm running on fumes here.  she used to take 3 naps lasting about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on how long the previous one was.  and all of a sudden the last few days they've been 30 to 45 min naps which doesn't even give me time to fall asleep.  ha!  and she's been staying awake about 2.5 to 3 hours by the time i get her down for a nap, instead of her usual 2.  i'm guessing it's just one of those things...like PP poster mentioned.  every day is different and there seem to be big-ish changes in our schedule every week.
