I've heard that you shouldn't clean ears with a q-tip, that nothing bigger than a finger tip should be used to clean ears. So I clean it as needed with a tissue around my pinky.
Q-tips aren't supposed to go in the ear, even baby q-tips. I know it sounds weird, but you are only supposed to clean the outside of the ear with the q-tip, and nothing ever needs to go in the ear.
I don't know if that's even what you are referring to, but I never clean inside LO's ear. I gently wash the whole outer ear with water and a little baby soap during each bath.
I do everyday with baby q-tips. a quick turn inside. I have cleaned my ears everyday forever. I have a thing about earwax... I hate it! I can't help but to do it. LO loves the feeling now... it instantly calms him lol

This exactly. The pedi told us this in the hospital so I've always followed it.
Our ped doesn't recommend cleaning the ears with a q-tip. Not yet anyway. Sometimes I break down and wipe it out gently, but I never go *inside* the ear.

My ped told me to put several drops of baby oil in her ear before her bath once or twice a week and the water basically washes the wax and the oil out during the bath. It works!! I have never used q tips.
