Or is it too early? I found a cute handprint craft that I could help her with, but it's really me doing all the work and I'd love to see her get into something. It's ok if she gets a little messy
PS - this is the craft I found if anyone is wondering:
Re: What artsy/crafty things do you do with your 13 month old?
I've heard of putting food coloring into yogurt and letting them mess around with it on their tray. Safe since it's edible but not art work when done.
Last Christmas, I made ornaments (simple dough ones, baked) and she painted them. It was messy but so much fun!

DD is 15 1/2 months old, but we've been doing small art projects for awhile. We made apple prints (using an apple cut in half) and we are actually planning on making these spiders today or tomorrow to put up with our Halloween decorations.
We did turkey handprints last year for our Thanksgiving cards (we just traced her hand, and then I added the rest of the decorations). I think I'm going to do these with paint this year (we don't send too many

Gluing activities are always fun (putting dots of glue on paper, and letting LO press paper, feathers, cut outs of animals, shapes, etc onto the paper)
At this age, it is a lot of mom doing the work and LO just assisting, but it's still good for them to have these experiences (and give you something different to do!)
No, it's not too young!! Yes you will do most of the work but it is still great exposure to all sorts of things for your LO and also great one on one time!
We were going to do that same activity last weekend but I couldn't find my paints. I don't think they would have handled it very well, tho! So we did a footprint activity instead. I just traced their feet on white paper (which was NOT EASY! They kept lifting their feet and wiggling around!) and then I cut out the footprints and frew on 2 black eyes and a black "O" mouth and we had footprint ghosts! I also laminated them. They are super cute! Even though I did all the work, it is still cute to have a craft using their tiny feet!
Another one I have been meaning to do, is tape down some contact paper, sticky side up and give them some paper leaves and let them stick the leaves down and then laying more contact paper over the top and viola! Pretty leave decoration to hang in the window

I had LO paint a rock with paint and paint brush...he did really good, loved it, and didnt eat the paint!(after I wrote Welcome on it and put it by our front door)
Ive heard of letting the pain with pudding, or yogurt.. I just would want to keep it so I use water based paint...

I'm an ECE, and we focus on the process, not the product at this age. I was taught that expecting a toddler to produce something was not a good choice because you want them to be concentrating on the experience of participating, not actually making something.
Do I do stuff with my son? Sure. But I can wait for him to bring me crayon pictures when he's older and wants to actually make something. For now, we just get messy
