I know I don't need to bring anything to the hospital for her, except something to wear home, so this is more of a question for after that.
I have this huge diaper bag and I can't for the life of me, figure out what to put in it that would even come close to filling it up. This is what I have so far:
Diapers, wipes, paci, receiving blanket, 2 burp cloths, change of clothes, newborn mittens, extra pair of socks and hat. This doesn't even take up half of my bag. So 2nd time moms, what the heck do you put in yours?
Re: 2nd time moms: WTH to put in the diaper bag?
diapers, wipes, extra paci, 2 receiving blankets, 2 burp cloths, change of clothes (x2), mylicon, diaper rash cream, tylenol, changing pad, plastic bags/ or wet begs (for dirty stuff), extra house key...and that's about it.
depending on how you're feeding this child- extra bottles, formula, ice pack, breastfeeding stuff- etc etc.

I forgot to mention I put a wetbag in there and it comes with a changing pad. Plus the diaper bag will be a little more full once we start using our fuzzibunz. I plan to BF, so what would I need to bring for that? Maybe extra bra pads? Diaper rash cream and extra house key are good ones though. Thanks!
In addition to what you have listed, I always carry the following:
Hand sanitizer, fold-up changing pad, diaper disposal bags, at least two bibs (B is a crazy drooler), gold bond baby powder (which I prefer to aquaphor, etc), nursing pads, wallet, keys, cell. When I still had pp bleeding I also carried pads. I've never had any trouble filling mine up!
OP thanks for posting this... I have baby experience with my young cousins and such, but I never really had this thought cross my mind b/c their moms always had a bag packed!!
I kept some tylenol/motrin and gas drops when DS was a new born. Also, keep some plastic bags (like grocery) in case you're in a place where you can't dispose of a dirty diaper immediately.
Good thinking!
Hand sanitizer and some toys are good ideas!
Bibs! I forgot about those. My bag also comes with a little clutch that attaches to the diaper bag that I will put my wallet, etc in. Thanks!
2 changes of clothes also sounds like a good idea especially if we are out a while. I figured as baby gets older I will have more stuff in it, I just couldn't figure out what to fill it up with now!
Thanks everyone!

ditto what scout said about the pp bleeding crap.
i carried extra pads & my squeeze bottle (a must have after vag deliveries) at all times.
and yeah- once you start using the cloth diapers your bag'll fill up- but for now the sposies won't take up that much room
yeah- hand sanitizer, extra breast shields, nip cream...are you pumping you think? cause if you're going to be out a lot then you'll probably just carry your pump & all bf'ing stuff goes in there. but if not then just the needed things can go in your diaper bag...

For the newborn stage, I generally carried
4-5 diapers, wipes, change of clothes, washcloth (I used them as burp cloths--they're smaller and more packable), and a receiving blanket. Oh, and my purse stuff. I didn't see the point in carrying around a purse and a diaper bag.
Once he stopped pooping all the time, I didn't need as many diapers. But, I replaced those with toys. When he hit 6 months, then I had to start carrying around solid food and formula too (I only BFed for 6 months) so I had to move up to a bigger bag.
DS was a late spring baby, so I didn't have to worry about keeping him warm.
This time around, I have two Moby Wraps that I'm going to use. One will hang out in the bottom of my bag. I'm CDing this time, so I'll have those, plus a wet bag, and a warm blanket. Oh, and DS's water/snacks/extra diaper.
