Babies on the Brain

I need snack ideas for daycare

Oisin is eating so much that he is now eating chik'n nuggets after snack time at daycare.  I don't mind, that is why we keep them there, but I think switching to something more filling for snack time might help.

This is what I sent today:

  • Breakfast: Fried egg, wildberry waffle and a banana
  • Lunch: 10-15 1-inch cheese ravioli, yogurt cup and 5 smallish strawberries
  • Snack: He has puffs, crackers, cheerios and boxes of raisins there, so any mix of those, usually 2 things.
  • Other: I packed a cream cheese and jelly sandwhich since they are out of nuggets.

I mean, seriously?  How much more can this kid eat?  What can I send that would be more filling, yet age appropriate and still healthy?  I am going to get more nuggets for them and will probably send a can or two of the ravioli (don't worry, it's organic and has lower sodium than most).  What else?

  • Try more protein-y snacks.  String cheese, yogurt, apples w/ peanut butter...
  • Loading the player...
  • Yeah, I was thinking cheese or peanut butter.

  • For a snack in the afternoons I usually give Luke grapes, cheese, crackers, freeze dried apples, pudding, cereal or corn(he loves corn)

Obviously he gets some kind of a mix of these.

  •  Baby carrots, apple slices, peanut butter crackers, cottage cheese with fruit, granola bars...?

I have the same problem with packing enough food for myself for the day since I'm nursing.

  • I would try to send things that are higher in fiber for lunch or/or snack time.

Like apple pieces with skin, whole grain raviolis, nuts.

    Good luck.

  • Does he like veggies?  Maybe carrot sticks or broccoli.  Those are my go to snacks when we have our nephew.  He absolutely loves carrots and broccoli.

  • I second the protein.  Have you given him peanutbutter?  Allie loves peanut butter and pretzels or apples.

  • If he'll eat them - cottage cheese, hard-boiled eggs.
  • mini whole wheat bagel with cream cheese.

(not trying to be a PW - I just keep posting then thinking of other things.)

  • I'll give peanut butter a shot.  He hasn't had it yet, but we can test it out.  He won't eat hard boiled eggs or raw veggies.   I send about 5 brocolli florets for lunch a few times a week.

  • I think he needs more protein and fiber.  Hummus with veggies, apples, peanut butter, cheese, edamame, black beans......let me think...

  • To clarify the waffle and the sandwhich are whole wheat.  IDK if that makes a difference.

  • ooh, edamame is a great idea, bev.

Do you think he'd eat steamed carrots?  I used to steam them for H so they were easier to chew and serve them cold with hummus.

I'll test some of those too.  He eats a LOT of cheese and beans.  LOL.  3 meals in 24 hours had beans.  Poor, porr daycare people.  He hasn't had hummus in a while though.

  • Maddie loves baby carrots with "dip" (ranch dressing)

    hummus and crackers

If you don't want to do PB (and they might not allow it anyway) you could do sun butter

The kids LOVE cottage cheese, and I send pretzels to dip in them

This is what I was going to say. Protein should help him stay full longer.
