Infertility

Do you think that RE offices are factory like by nature?

I always feel so rushed whenever I'm at the RE's or whenever I talk to the nurse on the phone.  Maybe it is the nature of doctor's offices in general.

  • I feel that way with every medical office, eye, dentist, etc EXCEPT with my midwife.

  • To some extent, that's just the nature of the business.  Some offices are better/worse than others.  I would suggest that if you don't feel like you aren't getting the time and attention you deserve to look around.  Depending on the number of RE's in your area, there may be a better office for you.  GL!

  • I mostly talk to my nurses and they are wonderful.  They always call back and take the time to answer questions.

I have definitely found that with doctors/nurses in the past.

  • I think I've been very lucky with all of my doctors. I don't have any that I feel rushed with right now. As a matter of fact, at my RE's office they always seem surprised that I don't have more questions / need more of their time.

Ditto! And I am at Cornell....which is the biggest factory around. My nurse and RE always give me plenty of time. So do the Docs that I see for morning monitoring. B/w  is a bit of a cattle call but I don't need anything from the people who draw my blood, anyway.

  • I agree that it tends to feel that way with many dr's offices.

For each of us, we feel that we are unique in what we are going through, but the RE sees the same things over and over again and they know what they are doing - it's just that we want many more answers than they have time for.

Just keep asking your questions and making sure they get answered. It doesn't mean you should sit back and take it. Be proactive!

  • Not at all with my RE.  Or my dentist.

My RE is fabulous.  He gave me his cell phone number, though I feel weird calling it.

My dentist is also fabulous.  She does all of the cleaning and exams herself - no hygienist.  And she is tedious.  Takes close to 2 hours to get my teeth cleaned and examined.

  • That's how it was at my first 2 RE's. Since I've changed to my latest RE's, I haven't felt that way. As a matter of fact, I left a message for the nurse yesterday afternoon with some questions about my HSG last week, and I got a call from my RE this morning & we talked for about 20 minutes and I didn't feel like he was rushing me or anything. It was great.
  • I'm glad you all are having such great experiences.  This situation is stressful enough without having the added stressed of constantly feeling rushed.

  • yup.  i've been to many REs and most of them do treat you like a number, especially Cornell.  it's such a shame that these clinics have become such a business and charge outrageous prices for these treatments. don't get me started...

  • By my doctor, no. By the front desk and financial staff, no. By the admin/nursing/clinical staff and the urologist, yes, yes, YES!! It's just the nature of the beast in a large practice. I put up with it because their success rates are higher, they offer more diverse services and my RE in particular is AMA-friendly.

    Mine too!!!  Love them!

  • If you think your RE is bad, wait til you have to pick an OB. My poorly chosen OB's office was run down and gross and I was treated like I had s-e-x to get pregnant. The horror!

I love my RE's office. I'm going to have an even harder time leaving next time.
