Chocolate Milk and your 1 yr old.

What is your opinion?  I heard that it is fine to give them some chocolate milk..but then you also get the NO Way.. I asked my Dr and he said it was fine.  I also have 2 Friends that 1yr old and 2 yr old wont drink white milk so their dr said its fine to give them the chocolate milk instead. What do you think?

And GO..

  • I think its one of those things where if you give it to them they will probably want it instead of regular milk. So I would avoid it at least until you know that they like regular milk. Every once in a while might be okay. But not everyday and not instead of regular milk.

I agree.. I was just wondering if your kid wont drink milk then is it ok to give to them everyday?  I would think they only bad thing is they are getting a few extra sugars..but its not like you would give them it all day long.

  • I've never known a baby to not drink milk. When we were older like over 5 then I guess you can have an opinion. But your baby not liking it? That seems kind of weird to me. If the doctor says its okay, then I'm sure it's fine. I would still try for the regular milk though.

  • I think children refuse white milk because they've been given a sweeter version and that's what they prefer.

This is just what I *think* because my LO is only 9 months, wth do I really know?

  • We don't intend to give our boy sweet drinks like that for quite a while.  Once they try the sweet stuff, they balk at the stuff that's good for them.   Same with soda.

    I wouldn't do it.

  • I wouldn't.  Just checked and there is 29g of sugar in an 8oz serving of nesquik chocolate milk, roughly equal to 7 and a half cubes of sugar!!!!

  • I will not be giving my 1 yr old Chocolate milk. I think it's disgusting, plus my niece and nephew had to have all their teeth capped because SIL and MIL have always put them to bed with choc milk, even as babies. So it's just left a bad taste in my mouth. No pun intended.
