Infertility

Lovenox users

I started using Lovenox 3 days ago.  the first injection caused an ugly bruise, day 2 - not much of a bruise, just a small dot.  But today there is a lump under my skin and the bruise is huge and it HURTS!!!!  still, almost 8 hours after I did it.

Does anyone have any tips for minimizing the bruising from Lovenox??

TIA

Re: Lovenox users

  • I ice the spot for a good 10 minutes before I inject it.  It helps with the burning and the bruising. I really didn't bruise much at all. I may just be one of the lucky ones but I attribute it to my icing.

  • I tried every trick I was told might help with bruising (icing, not moving around much after injection, applying pressure, not applying pressure, etc.) and I got horrible bruises with almost every injection.  It has been a little over 2 weeks since my last injection and I am now almost bruise free.

  • I ice before for a minute or so and then don't rub the site after.  I either get no bruise, a dot, or a huge, huge bruise.  There is no rhyme or reason about it.
  • I never iced before the injection but I did my shots in bright light and tried my hardest to avoid any veins/blood vessels.  I tried pinching an inch and pulling my skin tight before injecting - it was a crapshoot.  I never touched the area after my shot, though.

GL!  Lovenox bruises are the pits!

  • The only thing I've done to help the bruising (and it's still a crapshoot) is to sit down and give myself the shot.  This way I can find the 'fleshy area' to do the injection easier.

  • Ice before and after (I use a cold soda can at stick in on for 5 mins pre and 5 min post). Also, don't pinch. Instead, just stick the needle in.

Inject super slowly...like it should take 60 seconds to empty the vial. After it's empty, wait 10 seconds and then pull out the needle slowly.

Also, don't let anything touch/hit the area for a good 10 minutes or so afterwards.

I haven't bruised yet! The closest I got was a little blood blister type thing the size of a pen mark.

  • I bruise badly when I ice. This took me a while to figure out. It is not true for most people. I do it right before bed, and I inject very slowly. That helps my bruising. GL!!
