Cloth Diapering

How much $?

Just wondering just rounding how much have you spent on your cloth diapers and accesories? Just a ball park?

Re: How much $?

  • Roughly $300 for everything.
  • Loading the player...
  • Is that including your sprayer, extra inserts, wetbags, liners, and if you use cloth wipes ?

  • $652 for everything.  I got a little crazy the other day and made a spreadsheet.  That is prefolds, covers, AIOs, pockets, snappis, fitteds, wetbags, liners, repair kits, and detergent.  Last week it was only $450 but then a CD store finally opened up in my area.  Yesterday it was $600 but then I saw Cotton Babies had the used 3.0s for $2 so I ordered 20 more to keep at MILs house.  When I run out of disposable wipes I want to use cloth, but that will be a while from now.  I also don't plan on using a sprayer but we haven't started solids.

  • Well my eventual stash that I plan to get, excluding newborn stuff will be around $800 and that is with wipes as well.

    Stash Will Include

    10 Flip Covers

    34 Stay Dry Inserts

    8 Organic Inserts

    Disposable Inserts (when needed)

    6 AIO bumGenius Cloth Diapers

6 4.0 pocket Diaper bum Genius

6 extra insert for 4.0 Pocket Diaper

    Wet Bags

    Diaper Sprayer

    48 Flannel Wipes

    Bottom Cleaner Concentrate

I think that it is okay.. It is still a fraction of the price of diposables, also I will be using them for the next baby.

  • about $900...over 2 years and for 2  in diapers.

  • My wish list stash that I started when I was pregnant, came out to about $450:

    -(24) Prefolds
    -(4) Thirsties duo covers
    -(4) KL0s
    -(4) BG 4.0s
-(2) Flips with stay dry inserts
-(2) Soft Bums echo systems with inserts
    -(2) Soft Bums Omni systems
-(10) Soft Bums inserts (half mini size)
-(1) Planet Wise hanging wet bag
-(36) wash cloths to use as cloth wipes

Once I have a LO to plan for again, I'll be adding to this, but my budget is $600. I am open to buying used and things like "seconds" from cottonbabies.  We'll be making our own diaper sprayer using the tutorial from YoungHouseLove.com.

ETA: I still have lots of research to do. I am really intrigued by Soft Bums because of how adjustable they are, but the price is a bit high. I hope to find a couple of these used. I will also look in to making my own inserts because I am sure it can be done for less than $5/each.

  • No idea lol. Probably $500-$700 ish. I am a bit obsessed.  I have enough diapers to go 4 days between washes and I am still buying them.  I need CDers Anonymous.

  • I just did an online calculator. If I spend $18 for a 52 pack of Huggies (price found on Amazon) and changed 12 diapers a day, I will break even in less than 5 months if I buy $550 worth of CDs. I think that's enough evidence for me that my budget is more than reasonable when it comes to savings in the long run!
  • For roughly $300 I own the following:

    24 Orange edge prefolds (12 were hand-me-downs)

    24 Yellow edge prefolds (12 were hand-me-downs)

    24 Red edge prefolds (12 were hand-me-downs)

    6 used size 0 kissaluvs ($25)

    2 xs Thirsties

    3 size 1 Thirsties

    3 size 2 Thristies

    6 BG 3.0 (2 were gifts)

    3 size small BG AIO

    2 diaper pail liners

    1 large waste basket

    made my own wipes

I don't own a sprayer (yet) and do CD laundry every other day.  I love CDing!

  • Thanks everyone.  Just wanted to see how big your stashes for your money were.  If  would have been Cding from birth i would be saving a tn of money, but because I am in the game late I am still saving money but not as much, but al of these diapers go to my next kids as handmedown diapers.  So it really is an investment.

I figured for Diposable diapering for 3 years of life, it is around $3000 with wipes, and accesories, and that is name brand.  But only One Kid.

For CDing you can spend around $1000 and have a huge stash that you can pass on to your next child.

So if I had 4 kids at $300o each that is $12000 for diapers

But with CDing its $1000 (even if you doubled it for new and different styles and replacing) so Say $2000

for all 4 kids, that is saving a down payment on a house!  I know that cost way it is better and obviously its the greener way to go.

12 dipes a day is realistic for the first ~12 w but then I would estimate it more like 7 per day. You'd still break even within the first year, though!

  • My current stash is $700.  I have some seconds but no used.  The thought freaked my husband out too much.

10 Kissaluvs 0 fitted, 3 Thirsties fab fitteds xs, 5 BG 3.0 xs, 12 GMD newborn and 12 infant prefolds

4 Bummis super Brite covers xs, 3 Thirsties Duo covers sz 1

14 BG one size, 2 monkey snuggles overnights

5 Swaddlebees Bamboo inserts and 4 sm Blueberry hemp inserts, 6 AFFF inserts

40 cloth wipes (20 purchased, 20 made of flannel and terry cloth)

2 Lg. planet wise wet bags, and 1 grovia magic stick

  • I also have a spreadsheet, and I'm a little over $500 now w/ accessories (incl. wipes), detergent, 1 month PF rental, sprayeretc...I'm sure I'll buy more "for fun" but in theory I have enough to make it to 35 lbs, though it would be good if I bought more large sizes when we get there..plus of course more detergent eventually...none of the cds are used.  Some of that was w/ a GC, though, so I could've gotten better deals elsewhere, but this place is local and "free" to me.  I do need to buy a pail or repurpose a trashcan eventually.  I started at 11 lbs, 4 weeksish.

DS born 8/2010 - preliminary stages of SN int'l adoption - fur mama to 2 shelter dogs;  cloth diapering, babywearing, EBFing mama

  • Around $150 I bought mostly used and  bartered too and the new I did buy was on sale or with promos for extra free diapers. I probably have about $400-500 worth of diapers in value if bought at full price.

    here is the breakdown

    10 BG 3.0s bartered cost $0

12 small prefolds 4 prowrap covers, 12 med prefolds 4 prowrap covers $80

2 ecobum covers 3 infant prefolds 3 regular prefolds $18

    2 4.0s BG (2nds) and 2 well loved 3.0 BGs $28

2 thirstie duo covers and free Kawaii OS $35

1 BG 3.0 and free BG med AIO $20

So I was wrong, I have spent $181 in diapers so far. DS was born big and he's been in CDs since day 10, for my next kid I will buy a newborn stash and CD from day 1

  • I really need to add it up and figure out how much I've spent on CDs. Truthfully though, I'm a tad scared to see the number since I'm addicted to fluff. We have around 45 diapers in our current rotation (not including diapers we don't use or that she's outgrown - I had a pretty pricey NB stash too!) Annnnndddd... I keep ordering more.

Yeah, maybe its best I don't know the number. Stick out tongue

  • I've spent $500 myself, but also received 2 as a gift and a few free one sizes from KC.  This includes:

a NB stash of 24KL0's (Used), 5 prowraps (Used), 3 thirsties XS covers

19 different types of One Size Pockets

    6 FB Size S

    4 FB Size M

2 Pail Liners * (Used, great condition)

    3 Doublers

    Trash Can

    Large Wetbag

    Small Wetbag

    * I purchased slowly as I found great deals, so this would be WAY more than $500 if you purchased regular price.

  • I'm in the process of switching over to CDs. I am moving and have saved all my diaper boxes (from Costco) because I knew we't be moving for a while... I have spent at least $500 on just diapers (probably more) + wipes.
