Grey Nursery?

I'm on a roll lately with these posts:/

So I *think* I finally convinced dh to temporarily give up his office room and turn it into baby #2s nursery until him and A can share a room. The problem is we don't want to re-paint our rooms. Dh is moving his office to the guest room and since most likely in a year the kids will be able to share rooms (we'll re-evaluate when both of them sttn...Abraham's still a pain in that department), we would rather keep the colors the same.

The office room (soon to be baby room) is grey, not dark, but it is a warm color. Not something you usually see in a nursery I'm sure. So I'm trying to figure out decoration wise whether or not this color will work out. I was thinking it could work if we do a space ship theme, or boats?

Any suggestions?

By the way, is it "grey" or "gray"? lol I think I read somewhere that it depends on the hue.

Re: Grey Nursery?

  • When I think of a grey nursery... I think cars!  Very appropriate for a boy room.  Maybe you can paint a simple stripe across the room to add more color, but not make it too nursery so DH will have to repaint when you transition back to office.

I think with accessories, yous hould be fine!  GL

  • I agree with Jackie, cars is a very cute idea! But I also love the spaceship theme, it is very unique and boyish! Grey will go very well with either one!

  • I *really* wanted a grey nursery for Sarah- I wanted grey, yellow and teal :)  I think you can TOTALLY do that for boys, too.  I wanted to do it with lost of flower graphics, but I'm sure if you do really cool shapes it would work out, too!

Spaceship theme is very cute too... Target had a bedding earlier this yr.  Justine used it for J.  Check Etsy for adorable decals relating for either.

  • I would put one thick racing stripe around the room (maybe in navy) and use it as the nursery and leave it for the office.  I love that look and think it suits both decors.
  • Carley's nursery is blue...so I'm not exactly the "traditional nursery" type. But I like it. I think grey is actually really nice for a boy's nursery. I think if you add little bits of blue and decorate with boy things, it should work out just fine. FWIW, I loooove the rocket ships/space idea for a nursery. Very cute! :)
  • We are currently working on a grey and light blue nursery for our little boy. It's very soothing and calm and our main source of inspiration was a little elephant rocker. Www.spearmintbaby.com has a couple grey nurseries you can look at which also gave us some ideas- we actually found the elephant rocker from one of their featured nurseries.
  • we reworked the office that was green - oh yeah, jungle theme obviously!
  • Thanks for the tips!! Cars sounds really cute too. I'm going to start looking into those themes to see what I find:)

  • Grey is the new white!  You can work with that color in many different ways. I think go for it and add little touches for baby #2. I'm sure it's going to turn out fabulously!
  • I think grey, white and yellow (bright) is BEAUTIFUL!
