I just spoke with a prospective student's mother. Her son's name is Sjohn. Pronouced Shawn.

Really?

Of course, at first glance, one would assume his name is John and there was a typo. Nope. Sjohn.

And, sadly, this isn't even close to being one of the worst names I've come across in this job...

There are definitely some interesting names out there....

There is a man at work who's daughter is named "Franlisa". He says they couldn't decide which grandmother to name her after so they just combined them... Frances+Lisa = Franlisa.

Okaaaaayyyyy.

Yup...there are bad names out there. One of the worst that I've ever seen was YorMajesty. I also had a Cherry Pittman and a Candy Apple. No lie.

There are tons of twins (and even some triplets) out there with the same name, just a letter or two different.

ETA: I've also had a Mercedes Bence and A'Lexus Carr. Again, dead serious.

My MIL is a school nurse & she has had a lebreeze (like febreeze), lemonjello & orangejello & Jesus (like Jesus/God) not the other way. What are some parents thinking??

My H worked w/ a guy that had a bunch of children....lil Charles (on the bith cert just like that) & Prodigy!

I still remember an episode from the Price is Right from WAY back (1980s) where the contestant was an old woman in her 70s whose name was Bubba. Apparently, her family put baby names into a hat because they couldn't decide and didn't have separate draws for a male or female name. They agreed that they'd stick with whatever came out of the hat. So, apparently, horrible name choices isn't a new phenomenon. Sigh...

me too! I currently have a de' luxary. there was a family that went through my district that every child was named after the emotion the mother was feeling at time of conception - excstacy, lust, ire...yeah those were their names. there were 6 or 7 of them.

I had a "Sugar" last quarter (I work at a school as well.) And a "Chrisixeon" that is pronounced "Chris ix eon"

Also had a "Cinnamon." Who are these people?

DH once taught a girl named "Abcde" (pronounced ab sid ee). He thought it was a joke on his class list until she came in to the classroom and her friend said "Abcde, sit next to me!".
