Babies: 3 - 6 Months

"Back is Best?"

Well, My DD doesn't seem to think so! Don't know what to do (don't think there is anything I can do)! She is now 4 months old - Every time I put her down in her crib to go to sleep she turns over (on her tummy) as soon as I put her down. Scares me but what can I do? I don't have any bumpers, the only thing in her crib is her. I also keep her ceiling fan on. Any one else have this issue?

  • It's okay! A lot of babies choose to sleep on their stomachs once they can roll. The main SIDS risk is between 0-3 (or maybe 4) months. As long as you don't leave anything dangerous in the crib she should be okay. It's scary at first but you'll get used to it.

  • DD loves to sleep on her belly.  There is nothing you can do, unless you want to not sleep at night and keep turning them back over.  Sounds like you have all safety issues covered so I wouldn;t worry.

  • Ditto what everyone else said.  DD was rolling by her 2 month appt and the pediatrician said that once they had the control to roll, they were usually old enough or strong enough to sleep that way safely.  We take all of the safety precautions as well and have a movement monitor.  Actually, now she doesn't like to sleep on her belly as much, but for a month or so, she rolled there every time.

except-- i chose to put my son on his belly... the first night i did it, he STTN and has since.... he never did on his back... you'll be fine!

I have the opposite problem-- he rolls to his back & hates it-- I have to flip him over or he'll scream... as soon as I do, he is out like a light...
