Babies on the Brain

Major pet peeve, mentioned numerous times before

Don't ask for opinions or ideas and then get pissy when you don't like them.

I love the idiot fodder on baby showers, but it drives me NUTS when people post about something, get negative opinions or comments contrary to what they think is the right answer and then spend the entire time arguing why they are right.

Summary (in my own words) :

OP: having baby shower at her house (to show off her nursery) but doesn't want people walking in their shoes on the carpet--She knows that usually house rules are bent during parties, but it's HER HOUSE!!!! I mean, who KNOWS where these adults have BEEN walking?!?! :eyeroll:  How can I ask them to take off their shoes without seeming like an controlling germaphobe?

Other posters: "Idea"  "idea"  "idea"  "You know, some people don't like taking off their shoes---it's a party, you want everyone to be comfortable!"

OP:  But these aren't guests, they are my friends---I have the right to tell them what to do because they know I'm a giant weirdo.  I mean, how is it weird to ask them to take off their shoes when walking in my house MONTHS before my baby is born, I'm going to ask them to wash their hands before touching my newborn...it's the same thing!!

:eyeroll:

He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be.  He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.

Re: Major pet peeve, mentioned numerous times before

  • Can I add that the word germaphobe is my pet peeve. If you truly have a phobia you should know what that phobia is called. (I'm sure I've mentioned that before too)

But I agree with you. Why post for opinions if you really don't want to hear what people have to say?

Hey, I'd like to have a party, and I'm going to have a veg platter, but I want everyone to only take 2 celery sticks, 2 baby carrots, 1 tree of broccoli and 2 teaspoons of dip.

Would it be rude if I posted a sign?

I went to a wedding once that had signs like that all down the buffet. Seriously.

  • I have a feeling your story is far more interesting than the real OP.  I like your exaggerations (that are probably not much of exaggerations in reality). :)

lol, but see I'm NOT a germaphobe so I don't know the appropriate word.  Does it make a difference what kind of germs you are afraid of?  Let's say, hypothetically, I was afraid of syphilis germs but not herpes.  Would that make me herpi-phobic?  ;-)

She only wanted ideas on how to be controlling, not to be told she's being controlling---durh!

LOL, it might be OK then. Mysophobia - fear of dirt & contamination. It's all encompassing. And it's not a phobia unless you are truly afraid. Liking things to be clean is not a phobia. I don't know why this bugs me so much but it really does.
