What flavor cake?

Just curious, if you're making your own cake for the 1st birthday, what flavor? I think pretty much only DS will eat the smash cake, so I want to be sure it's a good flavor for him. He hasn't had any sweets yet, so probably something simple.

    I have a recipe for strawberry applesauce cake, you make it with cake mix!  That is probably what we are using.  DD loves that flavor of puffs.

    I recently gave my LO a bit of a vanilla cupcake with vanilla forsting and he flipped for it!  So that's probably what his smash cake will be.
