Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Curious as to How Common this Is (Re: LO's Getting Sick)

Not trying to be a braggy, honest!

DS hasn't been sick yet - no sniffles, no fever, nothin'.  Other than a month of expressed BM, he's been formula-fed.  I do stay home with him but we go out daily and he does spend time around other children.  He'll be 8 months in a few days.

I read that babies are typically sick an average of 6 times their first year? Am I dealing with a super-baby?

  • Same here! DD has been totally healthy, even while DH and I have been sick.

  • Luke has never been sick. Ella got sick once in the NICU. That's it.

  • DS hasn't really been sick either. He was EBF for 6 weeks, I pumped a small amount until 4.5 months, but otherwise FF since 6 weeks.

He did have a slight runny nose one day....but it was clear and nothing came of it.

  • Liam has never really been sick either, unless you count his bad reaction to oatmeal or a slightly stuffy nose (which I don't since the stuffiness cleared up on its own really fast and the oatmeal thing wasn't a germ issue).  I BF and then EP'd until he was around 10 weeks and then transitioned to formula.  He's been in daycare since the end of July and I teach kindergarten, too, so I'm really surprised he hasn't been sick.  Sometimes I wonder if my 5 years of teaching gave me super immunity and I passed it down to him with the BF/EP-ing, haha.

  • DD hasn't been sick yet either.  And now that I have said that, she is going to probably come down with a double ear infection and nasty vomiting/diarrhea filled virus tomorrow!  I EP'd for almost 6 weeks then switched to formula .

  • DS was sick for a week after he was directly exposed to sick neighbor kids.  It was no big deal.  Our pedi said that infants are sick up to once a month or 12x/year and that's totally normal.

I'm not too worried about sicknesses, we made it through last flu season!  Let's hope we make through again!!

  • We had one small cold a while back and now she has a runny nose with her top teeth coming in.  So not perfect like your guy but only the one cold.  DD will be nine months in about a week.

  • LO is just getting over his first and only cold - and I mainly BF - we have to supplement with formula - although we are done to very little (3oz a day at most normally). We were dealing with teething along with the cold - so it has been hell for the past 2 weeks!

  • DS only started getting sick once he started staying in the gym's daycare. Now it's once a month, although not last month since I didn't go to the gym.

  • My LO has been sick once and that is because my other two got the flu. He's kind of getting a cold but when he's around a million kids every day it's kind of hard to stop it.

  • Until this week DD had been completely healthy. She got a cold this week because everyone else in our house got it first. She is almost 6 1/2 months.

ETA: I BF for 2 weeks, and she has been FF since

  • Dylan has never been sick before, he's ebf.

  • My LO has not been sick yet either.  Yeah, I was surprised to hear that babies typically get sick six times the first year.  That seems like a lot.

  • Matthew has only had one cold so far. He is pretty much over it now except for the cough. We go out often and he is always around a bunch of kids.

  • DD2 has had one cold that she caught from her older sister, who probably picked it up at her toddler class.

I wouldn't count your chickens, though! -- we're just getting to the first cold & flu season where your baby will be out and about and where other babies/kids are likely to be spreading colds. DD1 had a terrible first winter with cold after cold -- we went to a baby music class and it seemed like every week she'd have a new sniffle, a day or two after going. :P

Her second winter was much easier.

  • DS had one cold that lasted about a week but it wasn't too bad.

He is EBF and I SAH with him. We go out nearly every day and DH works with the public so he brings home lots of germs.

Some babies just have better immune systems.

I never get sick, DH gets sick at the drop of a hat. Both of us were formula fed and raised by SAHMs.

  • DD had a stomach bug (didnt eat, had diahreea) when she was about 6 months old, I think? Then she had her very first cold two weeks ago (11 months).

  • Liam has been sick twice, when he was three and four months old.  He hasn't had so much as the sniffles since then.  He is BF, and in daycare till the end of this month.
