What if I don't want to be something round?

So I have been looking for Halloween costumes and I don't want to be something that revolves having a massive round belly....

Has anyone seen any Halloween costume ideas that are not frumpy or require me to paint my belly (I am just not into that).

TIA

  • You're going to have to be more specific about what you want to be.  There are a lot of costume options out there that are neither frumpy nor require your belly to be painted.

  • I was planning on being a carebear (which incorporates my belly but I wasn't going to paint it) but plans changed.

Anyways, when I was looking if you go to a costume store and try things on you can get away with a lot of standard costumes that are not at all related to being pregnant (witch, devil, angel, fairy, etc.) A couple other ideas I had considered  were "mother nature" it was just a dress but it fit fine over my belly or Juno (especially if you and DH dress up together).

But if you don't have anything specific in mind then you have lots of regular options you just have to go look around and try things on.

  • I was totally going to go as a Yip-Yip (those little alien dudes from old skool Sesame Street) this year, before I ever knew I was pregnant. It would totally work as a pregnant costume without making your belly center of attention. I've given up on it b/c I'm busy nesting and that's only a week before my EDD so who knows how I'll feel at that point, but you're welcome to steal the idea if it's at all appealing.

I think it'd be an easy homemade costume, btw--buy a bunch of terrycloth/fuzzy fabric, leave a mesh hole for the mouth/you to see out of, and add googly eyes on top.

He's growing up, but he'll always be my baby!

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice!  A couple of my friends were jokingly talking about doing this a few years ago, but neither of them are really into Halloween, so it never happened.  Sad face.  If you still happen to do this, you definitely should post pictures!!

  • IF I make it to the Halloween party that I was invited to - though the hostess told me she hopes I'm not there! - I think I will find a cardboard box and paint it like a front loading washing machine with a baby floating around inside.  I've always wanted to do that... but I'm not sure I'm going to make it that far.

  • Then be anything else!

I live somewhere cold, plus I wouldn't be comfortable with a naked belly, or smearing paint on stuff, so I'd never go the belly painting route either.

A lot of the "plus size" costumes are cut so that they'd work for pregnancy, and a lot of empire waist things - goddesses, renaissance gowns, serving wenches, etc work. Same with babydoll dresses. Or nightgowns - you could make a nightgown into an angel, or put curlers in your hair and a mud mask on your face and go as a crabby old lady.

You can always get a solid color outfit you like and add animal accessories - white dress, bunny ears & tail; red dress, devil horns & tail; leopard print dress, leopard ears & tail, etc. This is what I'm doing, and how I justified buying a new maternity dress I wanted :)

A lot of mens costumes & "humorous" costumes allow more space - check out the Mario & luigi, banana, gumby, beer pong, penguin, turkey, taco, etc on a site like buycostumes.com

Pregnant or not, its easy to put together a pirate, witch, or gypsy with stuff in your own closet and very few accessories.
