Piper just swallowed a dime. No idea why, she definitely knows it's money and not a snack, but there was one sitting on the coffee table, next thing I know she's gagging and then swallows, then I asked her what she just ate and she said "a dime."
After googling I've come to the conclusion that we can just wait, and if it doesn't pass in a day or two, or she complains of stomach pain, we should bring her in for an x-ray. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this...also (and sorry for the gross TMI) but she's potty trained, so how exactly are we supposed to check her stools? I mean, I suppose DH and I can uh, examine them - but I can't really ask her grandparents, let alone the babysitter to do it!
Re: Has anyone's DC swallowed a coin?
I would call the pedi tonight. They may tell you to wait it out, or they may want to see her tomorrow. I would call them and see what they say. I am not going to go into detail, but sometimes non food items that are ingested can get stuck in the digestive tract very easily. I would want my pedi's advice right away on this one, and I am not one to call after hours for anything.
As far as looking for it, can you bring out the potty chair again? You will have to examine them to hunt for the dime. No fun! I hope it passes on its own tomorrow.
ditto this. I can't even tell you how many I have seen because I'm an xray tech at Children's. I would say as long as she isn't having difficulty breathing or excessive drooling than it has probably passed. However if it were me I would take her in for an xray just to make sure. I found Carter with a penny in his mouth and a penny in his hand on his birthday. Because I didn't know if he had swallowed any we took him in and got airway films plus chest and belly films.
