organic crib mattress

Has anyone used an organic crib mattress? Is it worth it? We've looked at the Naturepedic and the EcoClassica by Colgate but still aren't sure what to do. Any help or advice?

Re: organic crib mattress

  • This is the one we have- USDA certified organic, no weird smell.  Haven't used it yet, but it's not heavy and I can lift it myself.

  • We were told that it should be the #1 priority on our list of baby gear purchases. We bought a Naturepedic one from babyearth. Haven't used it yet, though...

  • The mattress is super important. We were considering the Naturepedic No-Compromise mattress, but ended up going with the Moonlight Slumber Starlight Supreme.

Here's a good review of it that essentially helped us decide.

  • Just remember... just because it says it is organic doesn't mean the whole thing is organic.  Organic is so misleading.  I purchased a naturpedic and love it, plus it is completely free of all toxins!!!  I purchased an organic mattress cover and notice that if you read the find print on the back it said the outer layer was 100% organic cotton, but the inside was polyester and polyuerathane (sp?).  I returned it and went back to naturepedic for the mattress pad.  I now have naturepedic everything, pads, cradle mattress, crib mattress, changing pad.  If you truly want to rid the toxins I think Naturepedic is the best out there right now.  Slumber looks like a great one too but it is not entirely toxin free...
