My UO- pets & driving

It irritates me so much when I see people with their little dogs on their laps while driving.  These people always seem to have their window down as if to show off, or just to let the dog have wind on its face, but it's dangerous.  Your dog could jump out the window.  Second, it's a traffic hazard for EVERYONE else on the road with you.  You may trust your dog, but it could suddenly decide to use the steering wheel as paw rest to see out the windshield better, or jump up at your face for a kiss and obstruct your vision.  Not to mention if you suddenly had to slam on your brakes... your poop pup is going to smash into the windshield, if not through it!  Get a brain an put your dog in the BACK SEAT!

Might be more interesting to see a poop pup fly out the window...?

  • A poop pup smashing into the windshield is giving me the funniest mental image right now and DH is looking at me funny b/c I can't stop cackling.

  • I'm guilty. My dog is too scared to stick her head out the window, so she doesn't do that. She takes up no more space than my pregnant belly did. She's a sleeper in the car, so most people don't even know that a dog is in my lap.

So, is your dog a poop pup or just a sleeper pup?

And I let my dogs hang out the window all the time.  Otherwise they'd be doing the heavy breathing thing in my ear..ewwww!  They are far to large to sit on my lap though, so I pass the test on that one! :-)

  • Some people with little dogs are just annoying.  They think that because their dog is small enough to go somewhere, it's appropriate.  I watched a lady take her dog out of it's stroller (yes, she was pushing the dog around in a doggy stroller) at the mall food court.  The dog then sat in the booth and hate chicken nuggets straight off the table.  No...that's not appropriate.  There was also a super upscale baby boutique where we used to live and the owner's little dog was always laying around on the expensive bedding and baby towels.  Ewww.  Why are these things ok?

    They're not, they're just not.

  • I have a shih tzu and when she was a puppy my mom's old boss gave me a carrier.  It looked like a Bjorn.  That was not used.

  • I have a small dog and she rides in the kennel in the car, or else she would be up on my lap licking my face (or attempting to), plus she is a furball and would get hair EVERYWHERE. My mom lets her dog ride loose in the car and it is soooo annoying. She also takes him everywhere. I'm sure someday she'll have a bjorn carrier or purse carrier for him because he is getting old. The day I get a purse for my dog please slap me!!
  • This post is filled with all sorts of wonderful-ness.  From the poop pup to the dog in a Bjorn, I am sitting here with tears literally rolling down my face because I am laughing so hard.  Pretty sure my husband thinks I have gone off the deep end.
I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.
  • I do agree about having dogs ride safely.  At the very least my dog's leash is tied to the seatbelt on the passenger side.  She also has a lead that buckles in that she wears with a harness or is in her crate.  She would be too distracting otherwise and unsafe,  I wouldn't let my kid hang out the window, why would I let my dog do it?
