  • There is a bumper AND a blanket in the crib... and they will not come out when DS is born.

I am also planning on getting an epidural (seeing my sister in labor before she got hers has scarred me for life).

    I know... I'll be a terrible mom.

My U/O is that I dont think anyone who has not been through labor yet gets to have an U/O about epidurals...when and if someone else gets them...

why is experiencing birth a pre-req to having an opinion regarding epis?  That's about as stupid as those who say you can't have an opinion on parenting until you actually are a parent.

Sure, those opinions might later change, but I sure as sh!t don't have to experience something to feel a certain way about it.

Actually I also think being a parent is a pre-req for having an opinion on the way that OTHER people parent as well...feel whatever way you like about epidurals and parenting...but dont tell ME what I should and shouldn't have done as someone who HAS experienced both of these things...

I don't think taking care of a newborn is really all that hard - and I don't have an easy baby.

Yes the baby blues suck which makes it harder at first but this whole mom thing is a million times easier than I thought it would be (and way easier than the other people on 0-3 make it out to be).

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!  I feel that this will be my experience too and I am just so sick of everyone being so Debby Downer about taking baby home and dealing with all things that babies inevitably do (cry, poop, voraciously eat).  And even if she is a challenge and cries a lot, oh well.  I signed up for this adventure so I'll buck up.  I feel like even if I am exhausted and unhappy I will lie and smile and say all is well because I just want ONE person out there to have hope that it's not that hard.  THANK YOU!

internals are stupid and completely unnecessary unless you are WAY over your due date and need to be induced to find out how favorable you are.  or, unless you are in labor and want to know when to push without swelling your cervix. : )

I agree that when I read birth stories and they're like "I got my epi at 7-9 cm" I'm like WTF did you do THAT for?  It's almost over!

and I'm really glad to read that caring for a newborn isn't all that hard.  I'm organized, prepared, and knowledgable (and have a brain), so I already figured I would have an easier time than the usual woman.

Please tell me this is sarcastic.  . . PLEASE.

I think 99% of the time, it is completely selfish to get narcotics or an epidural.  The risks to the baby are not acceptable for the comfort of mom.  I am not talking about c sections, only vaginal deliveries.

    Selfish??? HAHAHA!!!

Well kitty cat...I'd like to see you experience back labor and then get back to me on this.  We'll see how long you last before you beg the Dr. for some pain relief.  Go ahead do your breathing techniques and go bounce on a ball...good luck with that.

Selfish my ass, oh that's so laughable.  You made my morning.

Who said I was using breathing techniques or a ball?  And I will happily report back what happened at my daughter's birth, regardless of what happens.  I am "just waiting" and will get back to you in 3 -7 weeks.

It is people like you who make natural moms look like a stuck up know it all. Which is too bad because most of them aren't like that.

I think the Bumbo is stupid.

So are you saying the Bumbo is ... dumbo?

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself Stick out tongue

    Hee hee.

I thought bumbos were silly, too, but I have to say that B really loves hers.  We never put her in it before she could support her head, but now that she can, it allows her a lot better access to her toys.  There's just not a lot of options for a baby her age to play with toys.  In a bumbo with a tray, she can get at them a little easier if that makes sense.  And I really feel like her hand coordination has improved since we started using the bumbo for that purpose.

    Just a thought!

     (runs in from 6-9)

The Bumbo may seem a little ridiculous and is not for everyone (a lot of moms on 3-6 and 6-9 say its not good for them because their babies have chubby thighs and cant fit into it, lol), but its definitely worth a try before making a decision.

That being said, the people who put their 2 month old in the Bumbo are ridiculous unless their child has complete head control. We tried LO in it at 4 months and she was NOT ready for it yet (she was totally flopping over), so we waited a few more weeks and then tried again. Its awesome now though, because LO is still a peanut and too small for her high chair, so its great for feeding time!

Sentiments like this, coming from a woman who has never given birth, are utterly hilarious in their brazen cluelessness.

Good idea. LOL I am mostly interested in how little miss I have a brain is going to feel if her child develops colic or reflux in the next few months. Luckliy she HAS a brain so it won't be hard for her to deal with.

Reasons why I'm a bad 2nd tri mommy:

    Induced at 40w 3d (had an epi @4, ended w/ a c/s due to a transverse head)

started supplementing w/ formula in the hospital (due to jaundice); Bean hasn't had bewbjuice since he was a month old

Bean rocked his Bumbo starting at about 7 weeks old (but his head wasn't floppy), and could only sit in it till he was just over 4 months old, due to his freakishly huge thighs.

He has bumpers in his crib (but I bought them late, after his bedding was discontinued, of course, so now they don't really match), and has always slept with a blanket (crochet, though).

Oh, and I'm totally not going for a VBAC for Deuce... I'm now officially too posh to push! (And organized and a planner... so I'm going to schedule Deuce's birth)

I think the Bumbo is stupid.

    Curious... Why?

I mean, I don't think they're the be-all, end-all (and I'm just borrowing one from a friend because they use them for all of 5 minutes) but they seem like a good option to try to help a baby sitting up rather than laying on their back so much.

I'm not sure I'll explain this correctly...and keep in mind this is only my opinion, NO basis in medical fact!

I think it's a little odd to be pushing forward a milestone that isn't supposed to happen until a certain amount of muscle tone develops. If your baby is 6 months old, sitting up/tripoding, etc, then I think a bumbo is a cute idea to help them sit and play.
However, I really dislike when people shove their 2 month old baby into a bumbo and are all like "OMG! LOOK! SHE'S SITTING!" when clearly, the baby is flopping all over the place and you have to hold her up.

    JMO!

Does my DD look like she has enough muscle tone here to be sitting in a bumbo?

    image

this is right before she turned 3 months old. All babies differ. My baby had excellent head control from the day she was born. No joke. She is also advanced in other things as well. Like I said, babies do things at their own rate, and whether your baby is 2 months or 6 months, they will do things when they are ready.

Also, about the epidural post (about women who get it at 7-9 cm) I am going to pull the "you haven't experienced labor yet" card. I got my epi at 4cm. When I have my next baby I will try to wait longer. I will tell you, the pain to me was unbearable. If at 7-9cm I cannot take the pain anymore, I will most definitely get an epidural. Some people try to make it through labor without one, some people find that they can't do it. Hence, getting and epi. at 7-9cm. HTH :)

  • My opinion on the Bumbo is that it's a baby gear item with such a short shelf-life that you're better off borrowing one from a friend than buying one or asking for one on your registry.

seriously Confused...if by almost there you mean 10 more hours of labor, including 3 for pushing in my case...7 cm does not always mean you're almost there ladies!
