1st Trimester

Spotting

I am really worried and upset right now.  I had very little red bleeding yesterday after a bowel movement and then it stopped.  Today the same thing happened, red spotting after a bowel movement.  I haven't had cramping, it have been light but I am still worried.  We saw the heartbeat at 8 weeks during an ultrasound so I am trying to tell myself everything will be fine, but I can't stop crying.  Has anyone been through something similar and been fine?

Re: Spotting

  • I haven't experienced this but from what I've heard some bleeding after a bm is normal.  Call your dr though if you want some reassurance.

  • A lot of women spot in the first tri - especially after sex, a bowel movement, anything that might irritate the cervix. I'm sure you're fine - but call your doctor's office - let them reassure you.
  • You should call your doctor. Good luck
  • I did call the doctor and they said it should be fine but we will have to wait and see to see if it gets worse.  It was somewhat reassuring but not fully.

  • My dr. said this is totally normal, as long as it's not a lot of bleeding and there isn't any cramping (or nothing out of the ordinary) you should be OK. Especially after a bowel movement this is very common. Good luck! Try not to be too worried - easier said than done I know :).
  • also if it only happens after a bowel movement do you know where the bleeding is coming from? asking this because it sounds like it could also be hemrroids (sp?).

  • You're farther along than I am, but I've been dealing with spotting off and on for the last 2 weeks.  They couldn't give me an exact reason for it when I went to the ER @ 5.5 weeks, but at least they saw the hb and confirmed that it wasn't ectopic.  The nurse at my dr office says that this is common and as long as the bleeding is not like a heavy period and is not accompanied by bad cramping, it should be okay.  I'm just as freaked out as you, sweetie, you are not alone!  I see a lot of posts about this and I am keeping all of us in my T & P and wishing tons of sticky dust all around!
  • You might just have a sensitive cervix.. I would try to be calm although its easier said than done, My OB assured me that because my cervix is sensitive that I would bleed after sex and ultrasounds.. so i have just tried not to worry, The odds are in your favor you are 11 weeks , next week your miscarriage odds go down to less than 1% right now they are less than 5%.. thinking like that always makes me calm down
  • Yesterday actually. Mine was quite a bit of red blood then it tappered off to pink tinged CM. I called the doc and they brought me to check things out. Turns out I have an irritated cervix that is bleeding. They did some cultures and gave me a prescription for an antibacterial vag cream.

If you haven't I would call your doc and let them know and see what they want to do. It won't hurt to have things checked.

  • Well, the fact that it's only happening after bowel movements is reassuring. You know what's causing it. I'd try to relax and take it easy unless it gets worse or you start cramping, then I'd call my doctor again.
