how worried should I be? It was 155 and they said it needs to be 140 or below. I didn't have anything like this in my first pregnancy so now I am a little nervous.
Are you high risk for gestational diabetes?? I had it with my 1st pregnancy and will be tested in a week or 2. I'm curious why they tested you so soon.
In many cases, women that fail the 1 hr. pass the 3 hr without issue. Don't stress and even if you do have GD, it isn't that bad at all.
It is just standard procedure at my doctor's office to test at the first appointment. Just so happened that I had my first appointment really early this time around.
The test results also depend on what time of the day your glucose was tested and when your last meal was before the test. Food takes 2-4 hrs to leave your stomach, so you could still have extra glucose in your blood before insulin takes it's full affect. It's normal for blood sugars to be higher than they would otherwise within 2-3 hours of eating.
That's why the more probative glucose test is 3 hrs and usually they'll have you fast before performing it so there aren't as many cofounders.
So, don't stress too much about an initial high level.

Re: first glucose test came back high...
Same here. I don't think I had my first glucose test until 20/25 weeks. I failed the first one but passed the 3hr test.
