I'd post this on the PT board but I need advice from people who's LOs are trained already.
DS has been doing great with potty training. We started 3 weeks ago and he's had no accident's (pee or poop) in a week. We went straight to underwear (even at night).
I'm taking the kids on a day trip to see my family 2.5 hrs away and it might not be easy to find a bathroom along the way (could be about 20 miles down the road). Do you think it would set him back if we used a pull up just for the trip? I'd still try to find the nearest bathroom but if it's really far we'd be covered incase he has an accident.
So use a pull-up or suck it up and deal if he has an accident? Thanks!
Re: should I use a Pull-up or no
When DD1 was newly trained (she was about 3.5 so a little older than your little guy) we'd "make" her wear a pullup if the car ride was more than about an hour. I didn't want to deal with the cleanup in case we had *just* passed the exit for a bathroom with the next one 20 miles down the road (like you said).
She was more mad than anything because she was now a big girl who wore undies. We let her put her underwear over her pullup as a compromise.
FWIW, she actually never had an "accident" or used the pull-ups. And it didn't set us back at all.
I put a disposible changing pad under my DD for car rides for a while just so I wouldn't have to deal with a wet carseat, but she never had a problem.
We took the 8 hour drive to my parents just a few months after she was trained with no problem.
I have no issue with pulling over and having her pee on the side of the road, though.
Ditto all of this. Minus the 8 hour trip LOL
Since I have 3 PTd now, (and lugging 4 into a gas station restroom is NOT pleasant) I keep a cheap potty chair, bottle of water, can of lysol and hand sanitizer in my car. We've used it plenty of times. You can pull over nearly anywhere and they can go. Then dump, rinse, lysol, and get back on the road.
Wait. How do you have 3 PTed???
