So, DH and I have been struggling with girl names. I feel like as soon as we make progress, back to square one. He likes when they end in a "Y" or a "Y" sound. He loves the nn Ellie-cute, but if we call her Ellie, I want a formal name for her that she can choose to use if she wants. Here are some ideas we have, I'd love suggestions.
Elizabeth
Elise
Noelle
Other names with the "Y" sound we've tossed around are:
Emily
Marie (family name, may be used as a mn)
Chloe

You may not care about popularity, but I just wanted to say that Elle/Ellie is so popular right now - we probably get one post a week with people asking for a formal name route to Ellie.
That being said, I do like Elizabeth and Elise.
Lexie Elizabeth is my name, and I love it, I'm 17 weeks along, and if it's a girl she will be Evelyn Elizabeth (Evie, Eh-vee) for short
my Husbands name is Elliot, so I think it's funny that we've both got E's and L's in our names and that's what we're picking for out kids too (not planned either).
I like Elise though too, and I think Elsie is a cute name

Love Elizabeth and Emily!
Elise and Noelle are just NMS, and Chloe seems so childish to me.
What about Estelle or Adele? Both allow for the NN Ellie.
Other names that end in --y sounds:
Elsie
Penelope
Adelphie
Bonnie
Delaney
Everly
Elodie
Lucy (alone or with the full name, Lucia, Lucille)
Rosalie
Waverly
