Black Friday- A Clicky Poll

I was just thinking about Black Friday, the big sale day after Thanksgiving. I love going shopping, but DH won't let me go thus year. I have to stay at home and direct him via the phone on what to get. I was wondering about what everyone else is doing? [Poll]

Re: Black Friday- A Clicky Poll

  • We avoid it like the plague especially as the Black Friday deals are now available online a few days early.

I work p/t retail as a cashier.  This year, I'm even more excited to be sleeping in as I'll be 39 weeks pregnant & only working up to the Wed before Turkey Day.  :)

  • It really depends. My EDD is 12/1 so Black Friday might be completely out of the question is LO decides on an early arrival. I might also just be too huge and uncomfortable to think about going out to face the crowds.

I will be a little disappointed if I can't go out and do a little shopping. The baby opens up a whole new world of bargain shopping possibilities this year!

You took the words right out of my mouth, Weaks...

  • Normally I'm alllll over black friday, I stock up on Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, stuff for me...etc

This year I'll be be 39 weeks pregnant or potentially even have a newborn so there's no way I'm going and DH works retail so I would be shocked if he happened to have that morning off (but maybe).

I voted SS because I plan on sending my mother with my list and see how much she comes back with.

  • I will probably already have my babies by then.  But in general I always avoid that day.  Although last year I did go to old navy in the afternoon- their sale was still going and the store was not crowded.

This year I will be the queen of online shopping or I will be giving gift cards.

  • I hope to GOD to be on maternity leave from my part time retail job by then, otherwise I will undoubtedly have to work.  if I'm on mat leave, which I plan to be, I MIGHT go to the mall later in the day just to experience some of the "excitement" but not to actually shop.

  • I will probably just stick to the shopping nearby if she isn't here yet. DH won't let me go into San Francisco where the good shopping is. I'm not sure if it's because of how far along I'll be or if it's because I will be using his debit card?

  • I go every year with my mom & aunts.  I rarely buy much, but I have so much fun with my family!  I am going to plan on trying to waddle my arse through the day, but we will see - I'm due 12/9.

But I am crazy too, as I am having thanksgiving at our house this year.  lol!

  • I hate going but every other year or so someone ropes me into it. I get uncomfortable walking around Wal-Mart these days so there is no way I'm attempting to go store to store throwing elbows with all the Crazies!!
  • I usually go with my mom and sisters, then we go out to breakfast.  If I'm feeling good I fully intend on going.  I barely sleep anyway, so getting up at 5am shouldn't be a problem.

  • I went last year for the first time and had a lot of fun!  But I am due Dec. 1st, so don't plan on going this year.  I may do some online shopping though!
I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.
  • I'm making no definate plans :) It would be great to go out and do a little shopping. I don't usually go early, but i like to go and check it out. I'm due the 6th though, so I'm not really thinking I'm going to feel like it....I barely feel like shopping now!

  • I voted SS because I can't go, but would love to pop out just for the sake of it. It's been 10 years since I was in the US for TG and I have such good memories of going with my mom and sister - before the cyber deals and everything, when 6am at Target was pretty darn early! :)

  • We went a couple years ago for a t.v. and that was the first time I had ever been out on Black Friday that I wasn't in retail. It was a madhouse. That being said we totally go now to people watch.

This year, I think we will be doing it online. I want a new camera and I will scam for deals a few days ahead, but if I make it that far, I will be so close to my due date I really would hate to be out with all those people running around. It would be just my luck I would go into labor in the middle of a store.

  • I am due 12/4 but they say baby may come on Black Friday.. They say the walking would really be good for me so I am using that as an excuse to get out & go shopping... I love Black Friday & anyone who knows me knows that... I  have even won contests etc that day....

  • In general, I'd rather walk across hot coals than venture out on Black Friday.  I'm all about Cyber Monday. :)

  • I usually go, but my due date was just bumped up to 11/30.  I think Black Friday shopping might be too much to handle this year!  I'll have to settle for the online sales.
  • I usually go shopping on Black Friday. However, I do not plan on going this year. I plan to have all my Christmas shopping done before November gets here. I already have a few gifts.

  • I avoid Black Friday shopping like the plague. To me, there is no deal in the world that is so worth it that would require me to struggle to find a parking space (especially 8 months pregnant!) stand outside the store waiting in line for over an hour, and pushing people out of my way to get the one thing I want. At least, that's what the BX was like when DH and I lived on the military base in Germany.

  • If I'm still pregnant then you better believe I will be out there with my mom.  If nothing else, it will be an attempt to induce labor!  Oh and I learned a very useful trick a few years ago for Black Friday.  Check out the Black Friday deal sites ahead of time so you know what you want.  Most stores will have the items in stock a couple days ahead of time at regular price.  Go ahead and buy it a day or two before.  Then you can go back for a price adjustment on Black Friday.  DH and I did this with our LCD TV at Target so I know it works.  Don't open it though, just in case they give you a hard time- then you can just return it and buy it right back.

  • I never go, but this year we might be on our own for Thanksgiving (unless DH's parents want to come here), so maybe I'd consider going afterall. I'd still be a month away from delivery.

  • I voted SS. I only do BF shopping online. This year I plan on having my Christmas shopping done early so I probably won't even be doing online shopping. There's nothing really that I plan on getting anyone that will likely be on sale anyway. I like picking up cheap DVDs and stuff at Target but will probably forego it this year!

I've been doing most of my shopping on Amazon. I put everything I want in my cart and then check it pretty much daily because they will tell you of any price changes right there. I have some Wii games and Blu Ray discs in there that I know Amazon will put on sale at random times so I wait and see if the price drops and then will purchase it then.

  • Hell to the no on Black Friday any year. Especially this year when (I'm predicting) I'll have a very new newborn baby, and probably still be recovering from birth.

  • I never go shopping on Black Friday (Okay, I did once, but I was dragged..) . And this year it falls on my birthday, and only 6 days away from my EDD if I haven't already had him. So I'll be hunkered down at home with a cupcake or two and lots of ice cream, watching the craziness on the news and not being jealous of those crazy shoppers Smile .

  • I voted SS because normally I would be going, but I'm due Dec 3rd so methinks I won't be going out this year.  If I was due at the end of Dec, you bet your ass I'd be there!  Although this will give me the opportunity to see what online shopping is like.

  • I'll be the crazy pregnant woman standing outside Best Buy in the freezing cold with my hot chocolate waiting to (hopefully) get an awesome deal on a tv for my son, and maybe a PS3 too. Then I'll be at Toys R Us, my husband and I always do the black friday thing with my SIL and MIL.

  • One year DH went out the day before Thanksgiving to see if he could get the same Black Friday deal on the TV we wanted, just a few days early ...surprisingly, the retailer was pretty happy to make the same deal - with less stress of a TON of people around.  DH usually goes out on Black Friday if there's something he wants, I usually have to work ...and there's not always something that I have to have, that I can't wait for and pay a little extra for and avoid all the busy craziness of BF

  • The past few years we have gone out early & gotten back by noon-ish. We then bake cookies in the afternoon. This year I plan to slip in a nap before the baking. But I'm still looking forward to it!

  • I'm due not long after black Friday so I don't think I'll be partaking this year....although it might be a good way to get labor started. Wink

  • We go EVERY YEAR and I am bummed that I will not be participating this year--but DH will be! And he'll be on-call, taking orders and requests and keeping me posted!

Last year our big store was Kohl's--we had quite a few kitchen appliances we wanted for ourselves and for gifts, plus they had some pretty great toy sales. We walked out of there with $800 worth of merchandise for only $230 after rebates, Kohl's cash, and sales. It was awesome!

  • I love Black Friday Shopping. My EDD is Dec 1st, so this year I might not be able to go...I'll have to wait and see how I'm feeling. I could have my LO by then!

  • My mom and I always go, and DD has gone every year since she was born. She wasn't quite 5 months old for her first Black Friday. Big Smile I'm not due until Dec 17 so we should be good to go!

  • My due date is Dec 2 so unless I'm in the hospital I might try to shop till I drop but have DH on standby to come scoop me up.
  • I really love Black Friday.  I've gone the past few years and I'm planning on going this year, though everyone I've said that to looks at me like I'm crazy.  The deals are just so good and it's so much fun!  Plus, I'm not due until 12/22, so I'm probably good.
