I read a lot of posts concerning matching sib names. Do you think matching sibling names are really that important any more? For one thing, there's such a variety of different family dynamics out there with so many couples divorcing, remarrying, and creating blended families. For another, there are so many styles of names that are perfectly acceptable. My parents were divorced and remarried (my dad has FOUR baby mamas) and my mom remarried AND adopted 2 kids that already had established names. Our ages span from 3 years old to 29 years old. Our names may be all across the board but I tend to think that families like ours are becoming more the rule than the exception. ??
Here's my sibling list - what's yours?

I never really thought about if they "go" together or not... they have always gone together for me, b/c they ARE together... does that even make sense?

Ours match. Mandie, Megan, Michael.
I posted earlier about "matching" sibling names, but I'm not talking "Mandie, Megan, Michael" type matching. I just want a similar feel to the names. Our first two babies have classic family names - Anderson and Vivian. Something uber trendy or funky just wouldn't mesh, and that would bug me.
(read it. you know you want to.)
anderson . september 2008
vivian . february 2010
mabel . august 2012
Ahhhh, yes. My parents were really creative (I say this with as much sarcasm as possible). My siblings and I all have A names. We also all have A middle names. Case in point:
Ashley Alyse
Amanda Ann
Amy Adelle
Mine are
Catherine (Cathie)
Caron
Laura
Everyone always said I was the odd one out because my name didn't start w/ a C but I love my name and never cared that it didn't completely match theirs.
Mark Jakob
Kristine Marie
Leigh Anne
Not matchy, but not conflicting, I suppose.

I'm really big on coordination in all areas of my life, from clothing to interior design to baby names. As an example, not having every basket and canister in my pantry from matched sets--even just one odd container--would anger me every time I opened the pantry door. I am that anal about organization and coordination; even my own censure can't change that part of my personality.
So, can you imagine how much more irritating I would find it that one of children had an odd name that didn't fit with the rest? I don't think I could stand it.
All that said, I understand that many people don't feel that way, but I still like to bring it up as a point in favor/against a certain sibling set. Sometimes I think maybe it hasn't occurred to someone that Elizabeth and Charlotte is a better sibling set than Elizabeth and Cambria. That's better in my opinion, of course, but, I hope you understand my point.
My siblings and I don't match at all. It drives me crazy (and they, and my parents have heard about it many times: ).
We are:
Brianna Katherine Elizabeth
Adam Michael
Ashley Anne
Kelly Elise
My name, as the oldest, stands out because I was named ten-years prior to Adam and by my mother alone, since my father was stationed overseas at the time. For me, she chose three names that had very deep personal connections for her. For my siblings, she chose trendy (at the time), basic names.
Note, too, the ill-matched initials and syllables--yet another irritation, lol: ) I can't begin to explain how much our sibling set irritates me!
I'm kind of jealous of the big families. I've dreamed about having like 4 sisters and 3 brothers all my life.
I think we somewhat match:
Nadia, Justin, and Natasha
DH's siblings definitely match:
William, Abigail, Benjamin, Charlotte, Jonathan, and Nathaniel
Oh, I want to add my husband's siblings:
William Joseph
Joseph Thomas
Katherine Anne
Margaret Patricia
Yeah, 11 kids but not all from the same two parents. 1 is my full blood, 2 were adopted, and the rest are 1/2 sibs from various marriages/relationships. I haven't even met 3 of them and don't know their middle names....
We "match" in a way. We all have the same cadence to our names, and all three of us have family names; Lexi and I have family MNs, and Arah's FN is a family name.
Allie Jo (me)
Lexi LuAnn (usually called Lexi Lu)
Arah Fae
ETA:
DH's family really matches:
Katherine Elizabeth (Katy)
Kevin Douglas
We dont come from a broken family.
Joshua
Justin
and me - Jessica :-)
So , yep , I would say they match.
Sarah Elise (me)
Johanna Lynn (younger sister)
I think they match fairly well even though my sister is 15 years younger than me!
Mine match...equally YOUNEEK!
Stefoni Rene'
Jermi Dannyl
Well, my Dad was married prior to his marriage with my mother and surprisingly, our names go relatively well together. Our ages span from 20 - 38.
Elden ...I don't remember his mn.
Aaron Duane (My dad's name is Duane)
Jennifer Ann
Kimberly Vera May
Christopher Steven
I don't think mine match...
My brother: Talmage Christopher
Me: Katherine Elizabeth.
DH's mom did a better job of that. 3 boys named:
Mark Allen
Phillip Anthony
Michael Aaron.
My sib set..all the MN are family names.
Christopher Allen
Marc WIlliam
Erica Adams (me)
Mariah Louise
I think we match for the most part...maybe my sister a little less, she came 7 years after me.
Husband's sibs:
Jonathon Ross
Ryan Charles (H)
Jennifer Marjorie
mine:
Keri Marie
Stacy Noel
Husbands:
Joel
Jevon
Jonathan
Jessica
Suzanna (different dad)
Kevin (Step)
Cindy (Step)
Derrick Carl (2nd Step)
Jenny - not Jennifer (2nd Step)
Bryce (2nd Step)
Michael John
Nathan Scott
Jessica Marie
I think the boy names go together but not sure about mine...
TTC#1 starting Feb 2011, BFP #1:5/31/11, CP: 6/6/11; BFP #2: 7/9/11, loss confirmed 8/3 with D&C on 8/12 finding complete molar pregnancy. Forced break until Feb 2012. My blog
Michael Jeffrey
Laura Marie
Yes, they match
DH's sibs:
Phillip Jacob
Benjamin Douglas
1/2 sibs:
Douglas Rodney (goes by Roddy)
Amy
Elizabeth Anne
They match too.
I don't think we do, other than all biblical I guess....
Deborah Ann
Michelle Irene
Sarah Marie
But....doesn't bother me at all...I figure if you like the names, they match (your personality at least!) My two will be
Brook-Lynn Marie
Donald Greig
Lisa, Christopher, and Melanie (me-youngest) - I don't think they match but I don't think we're a strange sib set. My brother and sister have a different father - my Dad adopted them.
Me and my sibs are;
Heather Marie
David Phillip
Valerie Beth
I think they match or at least they sound good together
DH and sibs are
Maria Lynn
Bryan David
Kristine Elizabeth
Lisa Anne
Mark Alan
I would say thay match,
Our daughter is
Isla Paige
and her soon to be sibs will be Eden Bryar and Olivia Mary. And I like how
Isla Eden and Olivia sound together.
I think we all "go" together:
Elysha Denise (me)
Kyle James
Danica Rae Annie
I also have a stepbrother, David Raymond, and half-sister Danielle Rae (my stepmom didn't know Danica's mn was Rae too!).
I think my siblings' names and I go together OK. Definitely not matchy--Joel, Sarah, Amy and Hope. Hope obviously got the least common of the names, but we're all happy with our names.
I think whether they "go together" matters in a few cases: If they're overly matchy so no one can ever keep them straight, or if one has a name that's considered cool and one has a name that's tease-worthy, that can cause problems, or one that's really classic and one that's impossible to pronounce and spell; I could see that creating resentment and teasing and "How did you get stuck with that name?" questions. Or like with twin boys, I definitely didn't want to have one "Jr." and one with a non-Jr. name!
I don't think my sister and I match, however my husband and his sibs most definitely do.
Jennifer Denise- me, named after my dad Dennis
Bonnie Jane- my sister, named after my mom whose mn is also Jane
Dh's: Isabel is grandmother's name, Luis is grandfathers name, Belisasrio is dad's name, Gloria is mom's name, and Enrique thrown in just because.
Fanny Isabel
Ana Isabel
Roberto Luis
Eduardo Belisario
Lizette Gloria
Fernando Luis
Luis Enrique
Sarah Elise is my sister's name! Our don't really match, except that they all end in an ah sound. My brother is Joshua Ian, and I'm Melinda Tacy... DH's family doesn't match too well either - Alice, Michael, Kevin, Mairead, and Joan.
Me & my siblings:
Brittney Nicole (me)
Hannah Taylor
Cassandra Jean
Hailey Jo
Sean Phillip
Seth Robert.
Two of us have trendy names (Brittney & Hailey), 2 of the girls have more classic names (Cassandra and Hannah) and the boys have...I don't know. Awesome names. I love both of their names.
My daughters are:
Anneliese Olive
Hazel Dianna.
Both kind of old fashioned/quirky.
Well I was raised as an only child, but my parents had 2 full term still born boys before me.
Their names were Kyle Wayne and (James) Tyson, and my name is Amanda Jane, I don't think those really go together. Then my parents divorced and my dad got remarried and had another daughter and my half sister's name is Jaelle Olivia, and I don't think my name goes with that either.
And DH and his sister's name don't go together at all, but they have different fathers. DH's name is Braden James and his sister is Antigoney (Tig) Rochelle.
But personally I prefer names that flow or "go together" DS1 is Carter Isaiah and DS2 will be Coleman Elijah.
Mine:
Lindsay
Todd "TJ"
DH's:
Phillip
Daniel
John Paul
Matthew
Rebecca
Michael
Rachel
Mary
Ruth
I would say our names are almost too "matchy." My oldest brother is named after our father, but the following three kids are Alex, Alicia and Anna.
Alex & Alicia's name have very deep significance, but I do think my parents could have tried to avoid a third A name in a row. I have eliminated all names starting with A from our future girls' lists now that we used an A name for DD. (And yes, I know my name is a little "matchy" with DD, but such is life.)
Mine:
Carrie Elina (sister)
Shawna Jo (me)
Scott Clifford (1/2 brother)
Not really matchy, but mine & my sister's were not real popular, and my Stepmom named my brother who is 16 years younger than me, so not sure it counts.
DH's:
Kyle Edward
Melissa Kaye
