If you bought a different size medela flange...come in.

I feel like the standard size fits me awkwardly, but I'm not in any discomfort as a lot of people who have changed seem to be. My nipple sometimes rubs on the side but I can readjust and it will be fine. I feel like the shield is too big for my breast, but maybe too small for my nipple?

Why did you decide to change and how could you tell what size to get?

  • I would suggest you call or email Medela and describe the issue and ask them what they suggest and how to go about getting a different size.

I emailed them describing my issue and asked them how to get a different size flange (I've only seen medium in stores). They replied back stating that it did sound like I needed the small shield and they sent them out to me for free. I got them in just a few days.

  • Have you seen the fit guide on their website?  I ended up getting a smaller flange size - apparently I have small nipples.  The medium was okay but it was uncomfortable.  When I got the smaller size, I almost felt like the shield was too small, but actually I just needed to get used to it.

I bought my flange online, but you can buy them in different places.  Medela has a list of places that sell supplies on their website.

  • To the two PP that got smaller flanges - how did you know you needed them?  After looking at the pictures I'm thinking I might need a smaller one too.

  • Look at the sizing info on the medela website. Once I switched to a smaller size I started pumping almost double the amount of milk! :)

    I got mine on amazon
