Best bottle when breastfeeding?

I plan on breastfeeding my LO as much as possible. He will have to take a bottle when my mother is watching him for a couple hours while I'm at school 2 days a week. I read that playtex drop-ins are the best bottle for breast fed babies because they mimic breast feeding (see picture below). Has anyone used these bottles or have any suggestions for a better bottle? Also, does anyone use glass bottles? Are they better than plastic?

they all say that. I bought about 3-4 wide neck bottles to try with DS becasue they say wide neck is most similar to the breast. They were all too big for his mouth and the nipples were hard. We ended up using the Dr. Browns bottles because I opened up the package in the store to see what the nipple felt like. IMO any bottle that has a really swishy nipple ( like yours) should work. Def start out wiht one bottle first in case baby doesn;t like it.

I used Gerber with DS, I loved them. They have the wide nipple, as well as a wide mouth opening- perfect for dropping in frozen "milk pops." :-) It is also very easy for baby to grip. I plan to get some of the larger size this time around, but we used the 5 oz size for a long time.

PS, I remember standing in the bottle isle and looking at all the different brands- ALL of the wide nipple ones say they are perfect for breast fed babies and mimic the real thing. I think there's probably not much difference.

i was gifted a lot of different bottles - born free, adiri, breastflow and had the madela bottles from the pump.

DD preferred the adiri and breastflow. as she got older (10+ months) she didn't care and we mostly used born free then (they were bigger and i had a lot of them.

that all said, she rarely had a bottle (maybe 1-2 times a week) when i had me time.

We're registering for a couple of bottles from several different manufacturers since every baby is different. There is no "universal best" from what I can tell, just what your baby likes or doesn't. We're going with glass, so that limits the choices. But with plastic, I would go with 1-2 bottles of a few different types.

we used playtex drop ins whenever she needed a bottle. She never had any problem.

meh, I don't think it matters. We used Dr. Brown's, Playtex and Born Free bottles and DD never had any trouble going back and forth between bottle and breast.

I used both the Medal bottles you pump into and the Playtex Drop-Ins. DS loved them both!

I don't have experience, but I heard Playtex drop ins were the worst for switching back and forth bw breast and bottle bc the nipple doesn't come close to the real thing. I'm surprised to hear some of you found otherwise. I heard a lot of good things about Avent and got a few of those for myself.

The lactation consultant at the hospital where I had DD told me to buy Playtex Ventaire bottles with the wide nipple. According to her those were the best for BFing moms, especially early on. BFing ended up not working for me and I ended up EPing for 5.5 months so we switched to Dr. Brown's bottles. I loved them, just make sure you get the Dr. Brown's dishwasher racks for easy cleaning. I had several glass bottles, but they ended up being more trouble than they were worth and we even had one break clogging out disposal. This time around I'm avoiding glass bottles altogether.

DS was really picky about bottles, and eventually would not take one at all, but for the few times he did, the MAM bottles were the only ones he would take. we tried dr. brown's and bornfree before trying the MAM. the nipple is shaped a little bit differently and is apparently more like an actual nipple.

The best bottle is the one your LO will actually drink from!

That said, DS was picky about taking a bottle and like the pp we ended up using the MAM bottles. I think the shape of the nipple did it - it isn't round but more flat, which is actually what happens to your nipple when the baby is breastfeeding. The MAM pacifiers were the only ones DS liked also and they have the same flat shape.

I would have one of a few different kinds of bottles on hand to start with, and start trying with the cheapest ones first!

We used Playtex drop-ins and loved them. DS didn't have any issues switching from bottle to breast.

I don't have any LO's yet, besides the one I have cooking, so I don't have personal experience, however, as someone who works with feeding problems and swallowing problems with infants/babies, I can tell you that most times it depends on what your LO likes the best. The bottle and breast are two completely different types of feeding, and when they are BF'ing the baby is able to control the amount they want to come out by their sucking patterns. With almost all bottle nipples I've seen, some comes out at times when baby isn't always initiating the suck, so it is a very different experience. Since this is my first LO, I discussed this exact same question with another woman working with feeding and she recommended buying a few of something you'd like to try, not a lot of anything, because depending on the baby they may prefer different things. We will also be (hopefully!) BF'ing exclusively for half of my mat leave and then attempting to BF and train for the bottle for the other half so that when LO goes to daycare, they won't have such a hard time transitioning to the bottle.

My suggestion is to buy one or two bottles now... don't invest in a whole set. I did that with my first, and he rejected them (they were the Playtex Drop-Ins). I went with Mam brand instead (same brand as his pacifiers) - and that's the only bottle he'd take.
