More comfortable sleeping on my back?

I know the left side is the best side, and I really really try to stay on my left side, or switch to my right when it gets sore.  However, in the middle of the night, I can't help but flip to my back.  I don't even realize I am doing it until I wake up for one reason or another, but it feels so much more comfortable than sleeping on my sides.  I have tried pillows and everything to keep me from flipping, but nothing has worked.

How do you stay on your sides/stay comfortable that way?

Re: More comfortable sleeping on my back?

  • I was the same as you until my BFF lent me her snoogle. For me, its not the same as pillows. It really forces me to stay in one spot. I start out on my left and I stay there until the last time I pee at night which is about 2 hours or so before I have to wake up, I switch the pillow so that I am lying on my right side just to switch it up a bit. Like I said, it really does force me to stay in one spot at night. I do roll onto my back for a few minutes here and there though, I will admit but for the most part, the snoogle keeps me in place.

  • That is so funny... my snoogle doesn't prevent me from rolling!!!  I must have a defective snoogle :)
  • I have the same problem as you the only comfortable way to sleep is on my back.   I try so hard to sleep on my side but as soon as a fall asleep I am on my back.

  • I have the same problem even with the Snoogle!
  • Oh no I am sorry ladies! The snoogle has been a godsend for me. Plus I have so much hip pain, the more I move around at night, the more I am awakened. I guess that plays a part of it too.

  • Laying on my side makes my back hurt but I try to stay there. I put a pillow between my knees.  A few hours before I wake, I usually roll to my back.  I have a really thin pillow that I try to put on one side of my back to still keep me a little tilted.

  • It's kind of a pain because it end up being a ton of pillows, but I bought a pretty inexpensive wedge pillow from BRU to go under my belly and then use another pillow between my knees. This pretty much keeps me on my side and the wedge is the best investment I've made...it really helps with the weight of the belly!!

  • I still flip to my back at night with the snoogle too.  I think I am cognizant of it because I wake up and just move one hip over the snoogle.  You are fine to sleep on your back as long as you have one hip propped up.  My doctor stresses comfort over guidelines.  So she told me that it was fine as long as i had one hip up.  But I also do not suffer from the pain and blackout problem that some multiple mom's face while on my back.

  • With my 1st the only way I could sleep comfortably was on the couch! I either slept kind of sitting or up, or else on my side with my back against the back of the couch....I couldn't get comfortable in bed at all!!
  • i've tried sleeping on the couch so at least when i'm on my back i'm on a slight angle by propping up on my side.
