Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If your LO has had an ear infection...

Did they pull on the outside of their ears or try to stick their fingers in their ears or what??  Did they have a fever?

DD has a molar coming in which is causing her a lot of pain, and she has a habit of playing with her ears when she is sleepy.  But she is playing with her ears a lot more than normal and it makes me nervous.

Re: If your LO has had an ear infection...

  • my DS kinda just hit himself in the ear, and he ran a fever of like 103 for 4 days.... but he also had a stomach virus at the same time and was vomiting with diarrhea so not sure if that was the cause of the fever.

  • My mommy gut told me so. DS was teething and had a cold. He woke up and was extremely irritable. We took him in and sure enough, he had an ear infection.

  • DS running a fever was what I noticed...he didn't touch his ears at all.

  • Ds has had two and actually still recovering from his second. He had a viral cold first with a fever for a few days then suddenly one day was insanely fussy and upset. He also hit his head/ear and tugged it and was trying to clear his throat. My mommy gut also told me so as nothing else seems to make him cry/fuss like that. They are more prone to get them the few days following a cold.

  • DD stayed up most of the night, crying off and on.  She refused to go to sleep.  The next day, she had a fever of 105.
  • DS has had 4 or 5 ear infections.  Always gets a fever, very irritable, has trouble sleeping.  Never pulls at his ears.  Usually he has a cold for a few days before the ear infection starts.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • Monk has an ear infection now and I wouldn't have known. I took him to the pedi because he had been coughing for a week, and had cold-like symptoms for 2+ weeks.
  • He's only had one ear infection but yes he pulled at the ear that was infected. He also pulls at his ears when he is teething.

I would call my pedi's nurse's line and see what they recommend you do. Better to err on the side of caution, kwim? Hope LO feels better soon!

  • When DS had an ear infection he didnt really touch his ears at all, he was just extremely crabby and not eating very well. It was also following a cold.

  • I didn't notice DS pulling on his ear at all. He had a fever of 104 and I took him to the ER and they told me has an ear infection.
  • The only sign for us was that DD was up crying all night - and she was much happier during the day.  No other symptoms, but it was very obvious that something was bothering her.
