Ok - so i have a problem. I had been on fertility medication and i am finally off of it all but I am still having my problem. Unlike most pregnant women i am not consitipated like most, I have severe diarrhea. I mean I have no form what so ever and just completely watery.
Doctor put me on bananas, toast, rice and applesauce and that is not helping either. I was also taken off of my prenatal vitamin, and put on only folic acid due to most Prenatal Vitamins having stool softeners in them.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Bowel Problems - sorry TMI
Prenatals have stool softeners?? I had no idea...
But to help you (hopefully) I was told to try Metamucil fiber to help with chronic diarrhea. I used the "old school" kind that you mix with water or juice. Since this is just a fiber supplement I would think it would be ok while pregnant, but I am not sure so definately check into it before use.
Hope this helps.
I believe it's safe to take Imodium or Kaopectate. However, I'm no doctor, so definitely ask first.
I have irritable bowel syndrome, where I usually have the same problem you're having. But, since I've been pregnant I've had the constipation instead. Looks like I can't win!
Good luck to you - hopefully this too shall pass!
I've been experiencing the same issue for the last two weeks. I have diarrhea every morning - sometimes I can barely make it to work. I thought maybe it's all part of the m/s thing. I've been queasy every day, no puking, but diarrhea. Really!?!
I didn't realize that some prenatals have stool softeners???
I have my first dr appointment tomorrow and I will be talking with her about my issue. I will let you know what advice (if any) is given.
Thanks for the information everyone. I would love to know what you doctor says tomorrow. I just hate no knowing what it is, I have had a bunch of fertility issues and its nice to be able to talk to someone. my problem is i really i have no one to call until my appt next week. I was seeing a specialist and he told me i "graduated" and could go to my own ob, but i ddint have one in my new town. so i am a new patient and they wont speak to me until the see me...which kinda sucks.. so i am a little lost.
Thanks again everyone!
Not all pre-natals have stool softeners in them. I have IBS and have been experiencing extreme constipation to the extent of 7 days without a BM. I requested a different pre-natal and they were able to give me one with a stool softener. They were much more expensive for me. The only difference in my previous pre-natal and the current with the stool softener is the addition of Colace.
The "brat" diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) is to help prevent the diarrhea from removing all of your important electrolytes.
As PPs have said, you'll need to up your fibre. Celery, bran, other veggies, etc.
