Men vs. women when they are sick

So, we've been circulating something in our house this week. At first LO was sick (Monday), then I was sick Thursday and Friday.  I was sleeping 9 hours a night and could barely peel myself out of bed but still went to work those two days.  Friday my whole body ached and I was getting chills, etc... Yesterday DH got sick, and he went to bed at 6:00, so I did the bath/bed routine, then got up with LO this morning.  Knowing DH he'll sleep most of the day.

Anyone noticed men have WAY less of a tolerance when they are sick?  I am still a little sick, and am thinking of waking DH up in a couple hours to help me out regardless if he's sick.  I have a full week of work this week and DH has only a couple hours of work tomorrow, so I'd like a little R&R before teh weekly grind starts again.

Re: Men vs. women when they are sick

  • Haha oh yes. When I am sick I still manage to function, no matter how much I just want to stay in bed. When he is sick it's the end of the world. It's just painfully obvious that women have more of a tolerance for just about everything.

LOL-thank goodness we are the ones that birth the children!  My DH always thinks he "gets it worse" when we both get sick.  I felt like I could barely function Friday, but managed to work all day then do the dinner/bath/bedtime routine after work.

  • OMG if DH has a cold you would think the WORLD is coming to an end.  He moans and whines and lays in bed.  Usually he catches the cold from me, and I definitely just deal with it.  Then he always claims that my cold must have been way less severe than his.  Oh please.

  • I have a bad cold right now with my asthma kicking in.  My DH is in Vegas for work.  My mom is on her way over to help me today.  I can barely move.  When I am sick, I am knocked out.  My DH can usually fight throguh anything though.  So I guess I am not the norm when it comes to handling sickness.
  • Honestly, i think it depends on the illness. I work in healthcare and men are the bigger babies by far  when it comes to colds, sore throats, coughs, flus. BUT women are way worse when it comes to sprains, lacerations, and rashes.

Women suck it up b/c they have to, men just whine.

  • We are the total opposite.  I am a big baby about being sick and DH sucks it up like nothing other.  I think it's really just our pain thresholds... we've had the same illness at the same time and were functioning at completely different levels.  Nevertheless, I still suck it up and take care of DD... I'm a SAHM so I don't get days off for being sick!

  • Haha this is my DH exactly. He is out for the count if he has a cold. He got the flu once and puked once and was out for a few days. I had the same thing a few weeks before him and was up all night crapping and puking at the same time literally all night long and was expected to bounce back that morning. It's a good thing men don't have to give birth.

  • So true!  When men are sick - they are DYING!!

  • Totally agree! We ALL just had stomach flu after DD brought it home from daycare. I came home sick on Friday and stayed with her by myself from noon until 7. Managed to get her meals, change diapers, play, etc. I still wasn't 100% yesterday but was much better and able to take care of DD all day plus do an errand while she napped. DH got it later Friday night and was pretty much totally out of commission until now, plus he kept whining about how sick he was. I was like, "Yeah, I know! I just had the SAME THING plus took care of our daughter!"

  • You just described our weekend.  I was home with a sick B on Friday.  Then DH got sick yesterday and laid around on the couch and slept all day yesterday.  The boys didn't bother him once but I had them all day by myself, even though I was also getting sick.  Well, sure enough, over night it was my turn.  So today I think it's my turn to rest, right?  Wrong!  I have been helping all day, even though my entire body aches and I'm running a fever.

I'm predicting that E will get sick tonight and need to stay home tomorrow.  I've already told DH he can do it because I've got to drag my butt to work tomorrow no matter what.
