1st Trimester

Clothes don't fit?

I know this has been mentioned before... BUT - I'm at 6 weeks and I'm having a hard time closing my jeans and work pants.

Is this typically too early or is my healthy appetite what's helping me gain weight?! lol

I know all women are different, just trying to get some insight.

Thanks!

Re: Clothes don't fit?

  • It's called killer bloat and totally normal. It should go down in a few weeks if you are lucky, only to have your belly actually pop soon after ;)

  • Yup bloat. I tried to stick it out with my regular pants as much as possible, by unbuttoning them when I sit down- but it gets awkward after a while. It seems to be better in the morning and worse at night. Water helps.
  • lol, thanks... This is definitely a killer bloat.

I've been trying to unbutton my pants when I sit because that's mostly when my pants are uncomfortable. I guess I'll try some little sundresses at work more often in the meantime!

  • It's normal (or I'm abnormal, lol).  At 8w3d I have about 4 pairs of pants that actually fit me.  I am so unbelievably bloated.  I have gained like 1lb (give or take a day, it fluctuates) and I went up like 3 pants sizes, no joke!  I'm just waiting for the day when it's actually baby and not gas, lol.

  • I can't remember what it's called, but there is a band type thing you can buy in most stores that extends you pants... it looks like a strip of cloth with a slit on one end and a button on the other end. You button your pants button through the slit and the button on the extender is buttoned into your pants slit.... that was harder to explain than I thought. Anyways, I hope it makes sense. It really helped me with my first pregnancy when my clothes didn't fit, but I didn't want to buy maternity clothing yet.

  • I was much more bloated early on, but its gone down now. I think eating more fiber has helped.

  • Try using a hairband through the loop and around the button to fasten your jeans.  I put my belt on over it plus my shirt and you can't tell my pants aren't buttoned.  That has increased my comfort a lot and extended my pre-pg jeans life.

  • I was the same way, and the bloat never went down lol. I couldn't stand it anymore so I went to Motherhood Maternity and bought this elastic band to put over my pants...I think its called belly band or something. It has made me feel way more comfy.

  • I'm sitting here with my pants unbuttoned right now. The bloat sucks! I can't say mine ever went down last time and I tried the bella band but I didn't like it. I went to the mall at 9 weeks to buy bigger pants, and a maternity bra, but the lady at Motherhood Maternity talked me into trying on a pair of maternity pant and I was sold!

Do whatever is comfortable.  You don't get award for staying in you pre-pregnancy pants for as long as possible.
