2nd Trimester

Am I evil?

Am I the only person on the Bump who has absolutely no interest in having a natural birth? I think I would rather have my eyes gouged out with a spoon.

Re: Am I evil?

  • No, you're not evil (as long as you are not judging those of us that choose to go natural).  There are lots of ladies on tb that have no interest in that option, so no, you are not alone either.

  • Do you mean natural birth as in you want pain mecication or natural birth as in you want a c-section?

Either way I say it's your choice. I had medicine with both of my daughters and plan on having the same for this baby as well.

  • I was perfectly content with my epi the first time and i'm sure I will love it again this time.
  • I don't think you are evil.  Then I would be too so, nope you can't be!  haha  I plan on having and epi also.  Then again babies don't always care about our plans!  (so i've heard)
  • LOL - this cracks me up.  I've had this same conversation with my husband - I have no desire to go without pain management, and if vaginal birth doesn't work out and I wind up needing a C-section, I don't care at all.  Maybe it's just because I've never really pictured myself as the mommy type, so I don't have a lot of expectations about what the experience should be.  But I totally agree, no desire to go au naturale!

  • No, you are NOT evil.  I might have to have a C-section for medical reasons but if I'm able to deliver vaginally then I definitely want an epidural.  This is my choice & if anyone wants to judge me for it, who cares?
  • when I was told no epi when I was in labour with my second, I wanted to pack up and head home.

  • I was set on having and epi with #1, but ended up with a c-section anyway.  I'm not really a VBAC candidate so another c for me.
  • No, no you are not.

I burst into tears when my RE told me the Lovenox might mean no epi, but my OB assures me they can switch to Heparin around 36 weeks and then I can have an epi. It's pretty standard, actually, and they would rather I was on Heparin anyway in case of an emergency c-section.

I told him he was pretty and my favorite person ever.

  • No you are not evil, my DH laughs all the time about how I need to just go ahead and draw a big bullseye on my back so that way everyone knows I want the epi ASAP.

I've suffered with chronic pain for years and there was not alot that could be done because of the severity of my Endo but they can do something about labor pain and I fully intend to take advantage of that.

I have been keeping you and your nugget in my prayers.

Awww, thanks hon. I think I'm still in denial - I'm so focused on feeling pukey, it's keeping me from freaking out too much.

  • Nope, not evil.  I had an epi last time and fully intend on having one this time.

In fact, I'll go so far as to say that women who have not experienced childbirth and swear up and down they will not have an epi no.matter.what  (aside from c-sections I assume) are in for a suprise.  I wish them all the best, but it's not for everyone.

  • I don't think you are evil at all.  I wouldn't have called you that before I had DD and I certainly don't after having her. Honestly, I don't judge anyone for using pain relief during childbirth.

I'm sorry you are feeling so pukey, did you get the issue with your Zofran refill worked out? I know you were having trouble with that twat nurse who didn't want to refill..hopefully it will get better soon!

I use to joke around that the second I got a BFP I wanted the epi.

  • Definitely not evil. I have tons of respect for people who know for sure they want an epi, simply because that's the right choice for them. As opposed to the people who are wishy-washy and get one reluctantly, then feel the need to come up with a zillion defensive explanations about why they did, rather than just say, "I made the choice because it was right for me and my child." Just own it, ya know? It's NOT a big deal. Drives me insane.
  • I went natural for the first 24 hours of my first labor (up until 7 cm) and I wanted to die when the heavy contraction hits.  I know it's not for me...I don't think it's "evil", but for me, totally unnecessary; the epi was awesome and I truly think that if I had gotten it earlier, I might have had some strength left to actually push her out.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • Whew!!! I am so glad to hear from ya'll! I guess I just kept reading all the posts from the natural mothers and while I respect there choice, don't really understand it. For me, anyway. I felt like the only one out there who didn't feel the same way as them!

I was all for having all the drugs I could get with my first LO, but she was breech and we did a c-section, and to be honest, it was wonderful. Everything went perfectly, and I have no real desire to feel labor at all with this 2nd one either. I know this may not happen, but I am totally relieved to have another scheduled CS.

  • Do what is right for you. If having the baby naturally will freak you out then have the pain meds on hand. Remember the baby is still directly attached to you and if you feel anxious in any way during L&D it will be transferred to your little one.

  • As I have heard some of the docs where I work say: would you have a tooth drilled without novacaine? Not evil, sounds totally normal to me. I'm almost 100% sure that I will be getting an epidural at some point! Just getting through the first trimester is enough proof of how strong I am, lol ;)
