MIL trying to force me to have a baby shower

So my MIL called me today to discuss having a baby shower for me. Although she wants to plan it around her schedule at the end of November. The thing is i'm going to be on bedrest until i'm 36 weeks and my family wants to have a shower for me after the baby is born due of my current situation, which I have completely agreed to, but my MIL insist I have it before the baby is born. She goes on to say that it's a tradition in their family to have a shower for expecting moms and even if I couldn't attend, because of medical issues the shower would still go on without me.  I really won't feel comfortable attending because there will be people there I don't know. Also I highly doubt I will even want to do any entertaining when i'm 36 weeks. I don't know how I can refuse her offer without there being any ill feelings between us. Any advice will be helpful.

Re: MIL trying to force me to have a baby shower

  • Shoot...a baby shower that you don't have to go to? Do it! It will make her happy and you'll get presents...sounds like a win/win to me.

I second this. Especially if it would be uncomfortable attending anyway since you don't know all of the guests. I see everyone coming out happy in this situation, your MIL gets to throw the shower she wants, you get the gifts, and if the guests don't mind showing up to a shower with no guest of honor it's a true win win.

I'll 3rd this.  No harm done if you don't have to go.  You won't have to worry about offending your MIL by letting her do what she wants, plus you may get some of the things you need before the LO arrives :)

  • Maybe your hubby can go in your place since its his family anyways? Otherwise, if they are fine with having a shower without a guest of honor, let them! Plus like the other girls stated, you'll get the gifts without having to be there! Score!
