your favorite "big day out" diaper bag...

I bought a Skip Hop Dash Deluxe as our small-trip diaper bag - and I love it - but I still think we're going to need a bigger bag for longer daytrips and things.

Which bigger bags do you ladies love that aren't completely bank-breaking, and what's so great about them?

  • I love my PPB Boxy Backpack...not sure if it is bank-breaking, but I sure love it.

  • Definitely a backpack. And not necessarily a "diaper bag" back pack. Our best one came from Walmart and was less than $15! It has a ton of great pockets/compartments- some zippered/velcro/open.  Also has mesh bottle holders on the sides.  And the best part is that inside the main compartment it has the cushioned part for a laptop.  This is PERFECT for slipping in a portable dvd player for entertaining a toddler on the go!  This is our primary travel diaper bag.  It's gender neutral so both DH and I can carry it.

  • I have an OiOi messenger that is huge but heavy (made of canvas). I use CD's so I need a big bag. I also bought an inexpensive Jeep backpack bag at Wal-Mart for when we go to sporting events. It was $20 and I don't care if it gets wet/dirty sitting under a seat. Very compact and surprisingly will hold 4 cloth diapers, 3 bottles, wipes, wet bag, formula dispenser, and an extra outfit.

  • I agree with previous posters. My 'big bag'/ travel bag/ esp. plane travel is an L.L.Bean backpack. Tons of room, easy to carry and I don't care if it gets dirty, wet, etc. Has held up great for 2 1/2 years...little too great..I would love to replace it, not a huge fan of the pink color I picked but it still looks brand new.

If it was just going to be a long day out...zoo, running errands all day etc. I would (and still do)...keep a small canvas bag in the car with the extra "just in case" items.  i.e. even more diapers, change of clothes for him and new shirt for me (I had a spitter), etc.

  • I have a couple of small back packs but I use a large messenger for trips and big days.  I have the baby phat messenger bag and it is honkin.
