Katelyn had a scary food allergy reaction, so we took her to the ER. Her lip swelled up and it looked like a huge blister. She broke out in hives, her eyes turned red and wouldn't stop watering. She was itching herself like crazy. She projectile vomited for 2 minutes. Needless to say, it was scary as hell. I am still in shock and so confused, upset, mad, etc. Why can't my daughter just eat like everyone else??????????

Re: Just got back from ER
Hugs, Mama. That must have been terrifying!
I can't imagine going through food allergies.... so stressful. I hope it gets better soon.
Oh my gosh... I am so sorry
Do you know what caused it?
Ugh... poor baby girl
Yes. Ironically, I received the computer phone call to remind me of the appointment while we were at the ER.
Let me know how it goes.
So what did they do to get her reaction under control?
Benadryl and a steroid shot. I am to give benadryl every 6 hours for the next 24 hours.
Oh Jenna, I just hate this for you and for Katelyn too.
Come over tomorrow after the appt if you want to chat.
big hugs.
That is so scary. I hate food allergies.
I'm glad that Katelyn is okay now. Keep us posted about her appointment tomorrow!
That's horrifying and scary as ***. I'm so glad she's OK, but I can't imagine that ordeal. I'm so sorry you are dealing with all of this......I don't know what else to say. I just want to give you a big hug.
I'm anxious to hear what the doctor has to say after your appointment tomorrow.

Oh wow, that sounds so scary.
If it turns out she's allergic to avocado, so am I. I guess the one good thing is that avocado will be much easier to avoid than some of her other allergies. The only time it's really been an issue is when I was looking for a breast cream (for BFing). Since I'm also allergic to lanolin, it was a little difficult to find a cream that didn't have either lanolin or avocado. (Most creams don't have avocado, but a couple of the ones that didn't have lanolin did have avocado instead.)
Also, I know absolutely nothing about how allergies are tied to each other and I can't remember what else she's already tested positive for, but I'm also sensitive (although not technically allergic) to raw carrots. I just thought I'd throw that out there in case there's some sort of relationship between avocado and carrot.
I hope you get lots of good information tomorrow!
I agree with PP. Best of luck - my heart goes out to you and your DD!

oh wow. i'm so sorry that must have been horrible to have to see her go through that. i'm glad she is better now and you *think* you know the source.
i'm not sure how you allergy moms do it. at one point they were thinking evan might have celiac disease and i felt completely lost. i'm not a cook at all so putting limitations on what i could cook threw me into a frenzy almost.
ask your doc about an epi pen in case something scary happens like that again. or make sure you have benadryl with you at all times until you discover all of her allergies.
take care!
Oh my gosh, that must have been so scary.
I hope both you and her start feeling better soon.
