So last Dec. I was diagnosed w/ borderline thyroid issue-no action taken. Actually, I waited awhile to be tested b/c I thought the symptoms (ie. hair falling out) was due to postpartum pregnancy. Anyway, we had trouble conceiving w/ irregular pds, now I'm pg. and I'm having symptoms again. I'll be tested next Thurs (when I'm 11 wks) but I've been reading up on thyroids on the i-net. I'm worried, if it's not treated in the 1st tri it could lead to retardation?! I'm almost in my 2nd tri!!! Has anyone had thyroid issues while pg? Can you offer more knowledge or help alleviate anxiety?

Re: Thyroid & preggers?
Just a tip...don't use preggers, it strikes a cord with a lot of ladies on here and it doesn't reflect well on your intelligence.
Congrats and a H&H 9 months to you!
When i was Pregnant with my DD I was told I had a "goiter" which is an over growth of the thyroid. Doctor said we would we wait until after she was born to deal with it. I never had any issues with pregnancy but mine was not really a level issue. After she was born my "goiter" became a tennis ball sized malignant tumor. Needless to say they removed my whole thyroid and i will be on medication for the rest of my life. My doctor stressed how important it is to make sure your levels are exactly right during pregnancy cause it can also cause you to miscarry if not. So I wouldn't be freaked out if your doctor didn't show any concern. levels are easy to control with the right dosage of medication and it is perfectly safe for you and LO.
Hope this helps!
I have hypothyroidism, and my endocrinologist wants to test me monthly. You should definitely get a blood test ASAP. You probably don't have anything to worry about, but your thyroid levels can get worse once you get pregnant.
Good luck! And, congratulations!
preggers. don't let the pregnancy police scare you away. say what you want. who cares if internet peeps judge.
sorry, i don't much about thyroid stuff, but wish you the best of luck!
I personally don't care...it's just that I've seen many ladies get flamed for this and I want to save her since she's a newbie.
Agree with what she said. Say what you want, doesn't reflect your intelligence what so ever! That was an ouch comment. Hah.
As far as thyroid problems go. My mom was recently diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis, and it certainly is taking a toll on her life. Her is an auto immune disease a little more involved but, (seems beside the point) I am being tested for it as well because it can be genetic. I would do what one of the pp's said to get your levels checked to keep your mind at peace, being pregnant already calls for a lot of worry so do whatever you need to do or want to do to make sure you are healthy and happy, emotionally/mentally and physically.
There are some pretty serious complications of untreated hypothyroidism, but they likely depend on the severity of the condition. Miscarriage is a problem, among the other things you've read.
I got my TSH down, then TTC. Now, we're still testing every 2 weeks to make sure things are going smoothly.
I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's and am hypothyroid. My body has antibodies which attack my thyroid. It is a genetic autoimmune disease and I am on meds to help. Thyroid issues can cause infertility and miscarriage, so I am getting my levels checked every month to be sure they are in the normal range.
i have no problem with the term preggers.
as for the thyroid, i have had issues for years. just keep getting tested. they will update your meds if needed. and the difference is pretty slight with every test. most of the issues come from people who had no idea they had any thyroid issues and they are normally pre pregnancy.
