Breastmilk storage bag question

So, I've been faithfully pumping, storing and freezing to get my stash built up before I return to work (Monday).  Yesterday, I took LO to the sitter while I got my hair done (YEAH!) and when I text to see if he had enough milk left, I found out the Lansinoh bag had a pinhole in it and had leaked all but one ounce out!!!

Has anyone else had problems with them?  I also have Medela freezer bags as well as the Avent storage 'containers', but can I put those in the freezer??

TIA!!!

Re: Breastmilk storage bag question

  • I've heard of bags leaking. I've never had it happen though and I've always used Lansinoh bags. You can put those other bags/containers in the freezer. Some people only use those little snappy's containers. But they take up more room in the freezer and take longer to thaw. You might fill another bag with water and test it out. If it leaks too, you should be able to contact Lansinoh and see about getting new bags.

  • I haven't had a problem with mine, but I've heard of leaks with all kinds of bags.

I've heard some people always put their bags inside a ziplock when it comes time to thaw so of they end up with a leak the milk isn't lost.

This is what I do. I freeze in 5 ounce increments, and then when I get 25 ounces in the upstairs freezer, I put it in a gallon size ziploc bag and write the amount and date and transfer it to our deep freezer.

  • Yes!  I've had several leaks with my lansinoh bags. Same thing- pinholes in the bottom part. I've lost many ounces so now I thaw them in a ziplock bag so that I don't lose the milk. SOOOOO Annoying!
