Puffs suck as a starter self feeding food

My SIL gave me a couple things of unopened puffs she had leftover.  I don't think they work very well as a starter food.  DD knows to pick them up and put them in her mouth, but she doesn't really use a pincher grasp yet, she grabs them with her whole hand, which is inevitably damp from drool, water, whatever.  The puffs stick to her hand and she can't get it in her mouth.  We've had better luck with little bits of chicken, veggies, etc.

  • she'll get better with practice.  Jason would just chew the puffs off his wet little hand.

  • I found their small size to be a bit tough... instead, we have these "baby mum mum" rice cake things.  He loves them, and they're nowhere near as messy as teething biscuits.

DS also loves carrot sticks and lightly steamed broccoli.

  • They didn't work for us at all.  She would squeeze them in her hot little hand until they melted.  I gave her a couple of wagon wheels which were much bigger and easier to eat along with some baby Mum Mum's.  That being said, we didn't really use either one much and ended up throwing out most of the container.  She did better with small pieces of real food (not that those aren't real but you know what I mean) and cheerios.  The cheerios totally scared me because they are so hard but honestly, she did great with those from the start and loved eating them (still does too).  I think she likes the hardness on her gums.  If she likes other things like chicken, etc. then I would give her those.
